Mr. Mai, who works on the high-speed road project from Châu Đốc to Cần Thơ -- Sóc Trăng section in Cần Thơ, shared that before the high-speed road project was built, he used to work on his 5-hectare rice field at home, while his wife sold goods in small quantities. They worked hard throughout the year, and only managed to afford their child's education.
“Four months ago, I was hired as a laborer on package 11 with a monthly salary of 9 million VND. The project is located near my home, and it's very convenient for me to go to work every day. The high-speed road has helped many local laborers have a more stable life. Although the weather has been unpredictable lately, the laborers have been working hard to ensure the project's progress,” Mr. Mai said enthusiastically.
On the construction site of the Thị Đội canal bridge (in Đông Thuận commune, Thới Lai district, package 13), the contractor, a joint venture between Công ty TNHH Tập đoàn Định An and Công ty CP Tập đoàn Đạt Phương, has always had more than 30 laborers working.
Mr. Trương Vũ Thắng, the project's chief engineer (Công ty CP Tập đoàn Đạt Phương), said that the Thị Đội canal bridge is currently being constructed with a substructure. The bridge has 12 pillars, two abutments, and has already completed two pillars, with four pillars under construction.
According to Mr. Thắng, the construction of the bridge is mainly done outdoors and uses electricity, so the weather has a significant impact. The company has taken advantage of any favorable time to accelerate the project's progress.
“Although the project was delayed by six months compared to some other packages, we have focused on building the bridge from the beginning. The main road and service road have been excavated early, and are ready for gravel to be brought in to fill them,” Mr. Thắng added.
Mr. Đặng Hoàng Vĩnh, the director of the high-speed road management board (under the Cần Thơ City Investment and Construction Project Management Board - the investor of the Project Component 2), said that the project is being implemented with 32 construction sites. The number of construction sites has increased by 7 compared to three months ago (when gravel was first brought to the construction site). The construction sites have 10-20 laborers and are focusing on building bridges on the route.
Mr. Vĩnh also stated that since gravel was brought to the construction site in mid-April, the packages have accelerated to catch up on the project's progress and have achieved nearly 8%. The investor and contractors are making efforts to achieve the target of 20% progress by the end of 2024.
The director of the high-speed road management board also mentioned that the gravel mine in Bình Phước Xuân (Chợ Mới district, An Giang province) has a total reserve of 3.285 million cubic meters (the required amount for the project is approximately 2.3-2.4 million cubic meters), and hopes to have gravel from Tiền Giang province by September or October.
The high-speed road project from Châu Đốc to Cần Thơ - Sóc Trăng, phase 1, spans over 188km and passes through four provinces/cities: An Giang, Cần Thơ, Hậu Giang, and Sóc Trăng. The scale of phase 1 includes four lanes, with a designed speed of 100km/h. The total investment for the project is approximately 447 trillion VND. Project Component 2 is located in Cần Thơ, with a length of over 37km, and a total investment of over 97 trillion VND.
