On the morning of June 21, functional forces of Lam Dong province coordinated to deploy rescue work, removing a container truck that plunged into a tens of meters deep abyss on Bao Loc Pass after a chain collision between 4 cars that occurred on the evening of June 20.
At about 7 am on the same day, a 200-ton crane was mobilized to the scene to bring a 40-foot container truck out of the deep abyss.
Throughout the rescue process, the Traffic Police force of Madaguoi Station organized traffic diversion and checkpoints at both ends of the pass to ensure safety.
Because the container truck was located at a depth of about 30m under the abyss, rescue work encountered many difficulties and lasted for many hours.
The temporary suspension of traffic through the area caused serious traffic congestion on National Highway 20.
Records at the scene show that thousands of vehicles lined up in both directions of Bao Loc Pass, stretching more than 10km.
At about 9:30 am, after many efforts, the rescue force brought the container truck to the road surface. The vehicle was heavily damaged, and the cabin was almost completely deformed.
After successfully lifting the container truck, functional forces urgently cleared the scene to restore traffic.
At about 10:30 am, part of the scene was cleared, and vehicles began to circulate again.
However, due to the large traffic congestion, the traffic jam situation on Bao Loc Pass is still serious.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported: At about 8:30 pm on June 20, on National Highway 20, passing Bao Loc Pass, belonging to Da Huoai 2 commune (Lam Dong), a container truck with license plate 51C-228. 43 driven by driver Ma Hoang Phuoc (60 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City), carrying dozens of tons of sweet potatoes, was traveling in the direction of Da Lat - Ho Chi Minh City.
When going down the pass to a curve, the container truck suddenly lost control, rushed into the opposite lane and collided in a chain reaction with 2 cars and 1 truck.
The collision caused all 4 vehicles to be heavily damaged, many meters of guardrails were knocked down. After that, the container truck and a 5-seater car plunged into a deep abyss on the side of the road.
In which, the container truck was stuck at a depth of about 30m thanks to many large trees blocking it. The car was lying about 15m from the edge of the abyss, the body of the car was seriously deformed.
According to functional agencies, at the time of the accident, there were more than 10 people on the related vehicles. The car plunged into the abyss carrying 3 people. Fortunately, the accident did not cause any casualties.
Currently, the cause of the accident is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
