Representatives of the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Ministry of Public Security said that it is expected that from March 9, the unit will coordinate with the Vietnam Road Administration and the Vietnam Register (Ministry of Construction) to survey and assess the level of traffic safety for passenger transport activities by 2-story sleeper buses when traveling on mountainous national highways.
According to the plan, the working groups will conduct actual surveys on National Highways 4D, 4E, 6 and 12. The survey activities are participated by the Traffic Police Department, the Vietnam Road Administration, the Vietnam Register Department, and the Department of Construction and the Police of localities including: Hanoi, Phu Tho, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Lao Cai.
The objective of the survey is to assess the responsiveness of road traffic infrastructure for 2-story sleeper buses, thereby proposing appropriate traffic organization solutions, contributing to limiting congestion and minimizing the risk of serious traffic accidents.
The survey content focuses on technical factors of the route such as curve radius, vertical slope, road surface width and infrastructure conditions that directly affect the traffic of large vehicles.
During the survey, the traffic police force will directly use 2-story sleeper buses to actually run on the above-mentioned national highways, and at the same time work with local police and road management units to collect data on road geometry conditions, traffic infrastructure and current traffic organization plans.
Through the test run process, the working group will also assess some operating factors of the vehicle such as climbing ability, vehicle stability when cornering, risk of slipping on curves with a small radius as well as the avoidance distance when encountering vehicles going in the opposite direction.
The survey results will be the basis for functional agencies to review and adjust regulations and management solutions for 2-story sleeper buses when operating on national highways with steep mountainous terrain.
