On the afternoon of August 21, the working group of the National Assembly's Economic and Financial Committee had a field inspection of the progress of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, the section passing through Vi Thuy commune, Can Tho city.
Reporting to the working group, Mr. Phan Duy Lai - Deputy Director of My Thuan Project Management Board - said that up to now, the construction output of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project has reached more than 74% of the plan. Contractors have unloaded more than 28km; asphalt concrete pavement has been paved for more than 10km.
Of the 95 bridges on the main route, 90 have been completed, the remaining bridges are expected to complete the bridge deck in August 2025.

To ensure progress, the units are deploying human resources to work in "3 shifts, 4 teams", determined to complete the entire project by December 19, 2025 according to the direction of the Government.
"For the two rest stops under the project, the rest stop in Can Tho City with a scale of more than 6 hectares has been opened for bidding and is implementing an investor selection assessment. The remaining station in An Giang province has a scale of about 3 hectares, the Board has submitted to the Vietnam Road Administration for approval of the investor selection results, said Mr. Lai.

Regarding the material source, Mr. Nguyen The Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Economics - Construction Investment Management - informed that the source of sand and stone materials has been mobilized enough, ensuring service for the project to reach the finish line on schedule.
However, for major intersections such as IC5, IC10, IC12... on the route, due to high traffic volume, it will be completed on December 19. For the remaining intersections, the overall unloading and construction will take place after October 2025 and is expected to be completed in June 2026.
After listening to the report, Mr. Nguyen Minh Son - Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Economic and Financial Committee - encouraged the units to soon complete the project on December 19 as requested by the Government. At the same time, he also interested in discussing the implementation progress and construction locations of infrastructure related to expressways such as toll stations and stopping stations on the route.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway construction project is 110.85km long, divided into 2 component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang section and Hau Giang - Ca Mau section. The total investment of the project is VND 27,523 billion, started on January 1, 2023, and is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.
Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is the final project of the North - South Eastern Expressway Phase II, expected to close the "new threshold" along the area, connecting within the region and inter-regional areas, promoting the economic and social development of the entire Southwest region.
