Racing for progress
In early March 2025, at the construction site of the Nguyen Hoang Road Project and the overpass across the Huong River, the contractor is quickly completing the final tasks to complete the project on time according to the direction of the Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee - Nguyen Van Phuong.
According to the report of the Project Management Board (PMU) for Investment in Construction of Traffic Works of Hue City, up to now, the construction progress has reached about 95%. The bridge items have completed the lower and upper sections. The steel arch bridge with 5 girder spans has been basically completed, construction items on the bridge such as railings, sidewalks and lighting systems are being implemented.
At the construction site, many workers and machines are paving the bridge surface; at the same time, completing the approach routes at both ends of the bridge. It is expected that the overpass across the Huong River will be technically opened to traffic on March 26, while Nguyen Hoang Street is expected to be constructed in the first quarter of 2025 after selecting a contractor. The project has a total investment of VND 2,281 billion.
Construction causes dust
Key transport projects in Hue City are being strongly implemented, contributing positively to the development of local infrastructure. However, in recent times, the shabby and polluted situation on Bui Thi Xuan Street (Thuan Hoa District) and Kim Long Street (Phu Xuan District) near the Huong River overpass under construction has become a nightmare for many people living and trading around.
During the implementation of the two ends of the overpass across the Huong River, the traffic of vehicles carrying materials, soil, cement... on these two routes has fallen, causing the road surface to become shabby and dusty.
Recorded by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on Bui Thi Xuan Street (near the project), when it rained, the surface of this road was flooded in large puddles of water. A thick layer of mud sticks to the surface, no different from the village road. Deep, wide potholes appear, especially on both sides of the roadside, which are a threat to vehicles participating in traffic.
On the contrary, when the sun rises, the mud layer dries, and the convoys of vehicles follow each other, causing dust to spread everywhere. As a result, the air became suffocating and dusty, attacking people's houses, directly affecting people's health.
People's houses and shops in this area have to endure the dusty scene covering goods and houses. Customers are reluctant to visit because the environment does not ensure hygiene. This situation appeared from the Center for introducing traditional bronze casting products to near Anh Duong Kindergarten. At the beginning of the bridge on Kim Long Street, there was also a similar situation of dust and dirt, affecting the daily life and business of many households.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Quynh - owner of a grocery stall on Bui Thi Xuan Street - said that in 2024, there were trucks that watered them but only for a few meals, after Tet, there was no water. Dust and mud water rushed straight into her shop.
Worryingly, this is a route with heavy traffic, high population density and many schools; a route that takes tourists to visit relics and mausoleums in the West of Hue City.
A representative of the Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that these days Hue has rain, when the sun rises, the unit will immediately handle the dusty situation to ensure people's lives.
