Worrying about accidents
On the afternoon of October 2, on Linh Nam Street (Hoang Mai District, Hanoi), a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper clearly felt the anxiety of road users because this is a road with many large trucks and motorbikes crowded together, but the road width is only about 7-8m, and has degraded.
For decades, people traveling through this road have been waiting patiently for the day the road is widened, improved and their lives are guaranteed.
"The project to renovate and upgrade Linh Nam street has been around for a long time, but people have been waiting for it for a long time without seeing any progress" - Mr. Le Van Hung (56 years old, Linh Nam ward) said.
Living next to Linh Nam Street for more than 30 years, Mr. Hung has witnessed many accidents on the main artery connecting Ring Road 3 with the city center.
Mr. Hung said that although the road is narrow, many dump trucks still go very fast, especially at night when the road is empty. In addition, many motorbike riders recklessly overtake or drive in the wrong direction, crossing the road without looking, making accidents more likely to happen.
"We hope that the black spot of traffic jams and accidents on Linh Nam road will be quickly eliminated, so that people will no longer have to worry about accidents every time they pass here," said Mr. Hung.
When will the expansion construction start?
The project to upgrade and expand Linh Nam Street was approved for investment by the Hanoi People's Committee in 2013 with a length of about 3.4km, expanded on the basis of the existing road, with 2 sections with cross-sections of 22.5m and 40m respectively.
The starting point is at Tam Trinh intersection, the ending point is at Nguyen Khoi embankment intersection. Part of the route (from Vinh Hung intersection to Nguyen Khoi embankment) is the section of Hanoi Ring Road 2.5.
By August 2024, the Hanoi People's Committee approved the adjustment of the implementation time of the Linh Nam Road Upgrade and Expansion Project according to the planning, to be completed in 2027.
The reason for the adjustment is due to difficulties and problems in site clearance, leading to the project not ensuring progress.
To implement the project, Hoang Mai district will reclaim and clear 98,300 square meters of land, involving 829 households and 19 organizations in 4 wards, including Mai Dong, Vinh Hung, Linh Nam and Tran Phu.
Currently, Hoang Mai District People's Committee is preparing documents and approving specific land prices for site clearance compensation in October 2024.
Hoang Mai District People's Committee strives to start construction by June 2025 and complete the project by 2027.
