These days, on Provincial Road 940 from National Highway 1 to National Highway Quan Lo Phung Hiep (Can Tho City), workers are working hard despite the rain and sun. Machines and workers work urgently, each new meter of road is opened not only to make it easy for vehicles to travel but also to bring hope of change to tens of thousands of households in the suburbs of Can Tho City.
The 26.7 km long route passes through 4 communes of Nhu Gia, Lam Tan, My Tu, Long Hung, with an investment of nearly 460 billion VND, expanding the road surface to 12 m, asphalting the entire route and building 3 new bridges. After more than half a month of construction, construction teams have simultaneously deployed dredging, filling the foundation, building sidewalks, and preventing landslides. Expected to be completed and put into use in 2025.
Mr. Van Trong Thao, the Project Commander, said: "The project has received a very high consensus from the people, especially the Khmer people living along the route. Many households are willing to donate land and architectural items to facilitate the project implementation. If the site clearance work continues smoothly, the project will be completed on schedule, making it easier for people to travel as soon as possible".
Mr. Thach Pet, Lam Tan commune, shared: "Previously, the road was narrow and degraded, the sewer system along the route was also damaged, making it very difficult to travel and do business. Now that the road has been expanded and the sewers have been upgraded, everyone is excited, children can go to school more conveniently, and agricultural production is much more convenient".
Not only route 940, many other transport projects in Can Tho are also being implemented, contributing to the completion of inter-regional connectivity infrastructure.
A typical example is the East-West economic development axis road, over 56 km long, passing through 4 districts and towns of the old Soc Trang province. The project has a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND, started in January 2022, and is now basically completed and waiting for the opening date.
When put into use, the East - West route will become an important traffic axis, forming a network of vertical - vertical connections, linking agricultural and forestry production areas, meeting the needs of travel and goods transportation, promoting production - business, contributing to promoting production and business activities, improving the lives of people in rural areas.

Mr. Ly Lil, Phu Loc commune, shared: "My family was affected with nearly 30m of frontage, but the state compensated and provided appropriate support, so we are very in agreement. With a wide road, convenient travel, people are very happy, the locality will also have more conditions to develop".
