Provincial Road 588A connecting National Highway 9 in Krong Klang town to Mo O, Trieu Nguyen and Ba Long communes (Dakrong district, Quang Tri province) is about 23km long.
This is a unique road, connecting remote communes with the center of Dakrong district, helping to bring goods, agricultural products and consumer goods.
However, due to the continuous traffic of sand and hotel trucks from local mines with too much weight and after a long time of use, many sections of the road have appeared a series of potholes, potholes, peeling, cracked and broken road surfaces. Some locations are even seriously damaged along the roadside, leading to the risk of slippery and unsafe travel.
According to local people, the damage to route 588A has lasted for nearly 4 years. Ms. Ho Thi Bong (28 years old, residing in Trieu Nguyen commune) said that she often travels on this road, but the road is currently damaged, with many muddy, peeling water, making travel very difficult and dangerous.
"At night or on heavy rainy days, traveling on provincial roads is very dangerous. I travel a lot, I know which section is broken but still fall" - Ms. Bong said.

Provincial Road 588A is also the road that students from Ba Long, Trieu Nguyen and Mo O communes use to get to school. Traffic accidents occur continuously, some of which lead to death, making parents worried.
Mr. Tran Huu Hieu - Chairman of Ba Long Commune People's Committee said that the deterioration of route 588A not only causes inconvenience to people's travel but also negatively affects the socio-economic development of the locality.
In that situation, local authorities at all levels have repeatedly petitioned competent departments and branches to soon have a plan to repair and upgrade the road as well as control the load of vehicles carrying materials through the route.
Mr. Hoang Anh Quang - Director of the Traffic Maintenance Management Board of the Department of Transport of Quang Tri province confirmed that the damage on route 588A had appeared about 4 years ago due to increased truck traffic. However, for now, this unit can only temporarily repair it because the maintenance budget is limited, and the thorough repair of the damage has not been possible. In addition, the Department of Transport of Quang Tri will request the Department Inspectorate to organize inspections, control heavy trucks and handle vehicles carrying materials that drop rocks and soil.
