At the end of the year, many central roads in Hanoi continued to fall into a state of prolonged congestion, causing many difficulties for people's travel.
Regularly traveling on Nguyen Trai Street, Ms. Dang Ngoc Huyen (Dong Da Ward) said that traffic jams often occur, with traffic jams in the morning heading towards the center and in the afternoon and evening going in the opposite direction. "Usually there are traffic jams, at the end of the year people move around a lot, so the traffic jams are even longer. There were days when I traveled about 2km but it took me 30 minutes to move, Ms. Huyen shared.

Not only Nguyen Trai, roads such as Nguyen Chi Thanh, Tran Duy Hung, Lang or along Ring Road 3 are also often seriously congested at the end of the year. The flow of vehicles is extended, moving slowly, especially during rush hour.
Mr. Ha Van Huan, a driver who often travels on Ring Road 3, said that the large number of trucks makes this route almost overloaded, especially on the days before Tet, when the traffic jams become even more serious.
Recorded during rush hour on December 24 on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, although regulations on handling traffic violations have been tightened, there is still a situation where some vehicles climb onto the sidewalk to "clog", causing more chaos in traffic, posing a potential risk of insecurity.

To reduce traffic pressure, the Hanoi Department of Construction is implementing sidewalk cuts and road expansion at some intersections that are often congested. According to the Department of Construction, the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board is renovating the architecture of intersections, narrowing sidewalks, and relocating and adjusting trees, lighting systems, and drainage within the construction area.
Currently, Hanoi still has 5 intersections under renovation, including: Minh Khai area (under Vinh Tuy bridge - Mac Thi Buoi street), Huynh Thuc Khang - Nguyen Chi Thanh, Le Van Luong - Hoang Minh Giam - Nguyen Tuan, Nguy Nhu Kon Tum - Vu Trong Phung and Vo Van Kiet - road to Quang Minh Industrial Park. These items are expected to be completed before December 25.

In parallel with infrastructure renovation, the city will also pilot the limitation of trucks with a load capacity of 10 tons or more, container trucks, and tractors traveling towards Ring Road 3 during rush hour. These vehicles are restricted from moving on Thang Long Avenue and National Highway 32 towards Ring Road 3 from 6:30 am to 9:00 am and 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The pilot period lasts for 3 months, from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026.
Previously, the Hanoi People's Committee also issued an emergency order to renovate infrastructure and organize traffic in the area of Phap Van intersection, Nuoc Ngam Bus Station and lane 15 Ngoc Hoi (Hoang Mai ward). The project includes expanding the sidewalk of lane 15 Ngoc Hoi and opening a branch connecting from the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway access road, to reduce the pressure on vehicles having to pass through Phap Van intersection.
The above solutions are expected to be completed soon, contributing to improving traffic congestion in the context of increased travel demand before the Tet holiday.
