Key routes in Dung Quat Economic Zone, especially National Highway 24C through Tuyet Diem 1 village, Van Tuong commune, Quang Ngai province, are seriously degraded and severely damaged. The risk of traffic accidents is always lurking.
In particular, the about 500m long road leading to Gemadept Dung Quat International Port, through Tuyet Diem 1 village, is severely damaged, posing a potential risk of traffic accidents.
The house is located next to the road, Ms. Pham Thi Le (45 years old, in Tuyet Diem 1 village, Van Tuong commune) said that after the recent storms, the already degraded road surface was severely damaged. "There are many chickens and elephants, and the stagnant rainwater has become large puddles, causing motorcyclists to continuously slip and fall. Every day, a convoy of heavy trucks line up to enter the port, becoming a nightmare for households living along the road.
"There are holes nearly 1m deep that cause cars to collapse continuously, so we have to call for help to get the vehicle up. Local authorities, functional forces and businesses also often dump rocks and soil to temporarily patch for vehicles to travel, but in just a few days, the road surface is damaged like before," Ms. Le shared.
Major Vu Hoang Anh Tuan - Deputy Head of Dung Quat Border Guard Station - said that National Highway 24C through Tuyet Diem 1 village is no longer able to withstand the heavy load. Many vehicles do not comply with regulations on load, operating continuously day and night, causing the road surface structure to quickly break down, making them unable to withstand the load.
During rush hours, traffic jams often occur on the route when hundreds of trucks extend, occupying almost the entire road surface, pushing other vehicles into dangerous situations.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duy Hung - Deputy Head of Van Tuong Commune Police - said that the authorities have connected security camera systems on key routes to monitor traffic order and safety. In addition, regularly arrange patrol forces, especially during rush hour, to control vehicle traffic and ensure safety for people.
However, maintaining traffic order in this area still faces many difficulties when there is no synchronous improvement in infrastructure. Therefore, the risk of traffic insecurity is always present.
Dung Quat Economic Zone currently has dozens of intra-regional traffic routes with a total length of nearly 50km. The roads were all built a long time ago, on a small scale, with unsynchronized connections and have now seriously degraded.
According to Mr. Tran Van Man - Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Parks of the province, the inner-regional routes of Dung Quat Economic Zone are under a huge load, with a capacity of tens of millions of tons per year. Many large projects being implemented in the economic zone have led to a sudden increase in the demand for transporting materials, equipment and goods, putting pressure on the already overloaded transport infrastructure system.
Meanwhile, the annual upgrading and repair work is only for small-scale patching and maintenance, not meeting the transportation needs and rapid development of Dung Quat Economic Zone. This year, extreme weather and prolonged storms have caused serious damage to many roads - including National Highway 24C through Tuyet Diem 1 village, Van Tuong commune.
"In the face of this situation, the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Industrial Parks of the province has recommended that the province and relevant agencies consider and prioritize the allocation of funds to soon upgrade and synchronously invest in the internal transport system. If not invested in promptly, transport infrastructure will become a bottleneck, hindering the development of Dung Quat Economic Zone, Mr. Man emphasized.
