Recorded at more than 1:00 p.m. on February 22, the traffic flow was dense and moving slowly on Nguyen Xien and Khuat Duy Tien streets towards Nguyen Trai intersection (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi).
On Nguyen Xien Street, the congestion lasted from Pham Tu intersection to Nguyen Trai intersection with a length of about 1.5km. Vehicles jostle each other, moving little by little.
On Khuat Duy Tien Street, the traffic jams sometimes extended about 700m from the gate of the Political Academy Region 1 to the Nguyen Trai intersection.
The congestion caused many people to drive on the sidewalk to shorten travel time, making the traffic situation in the area even more chaotic.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long (35 years old, Thanh Xuan) said that although it is a weekend and not rush hour, the congestion is serious on Khuat Duy Tien Street towards Nguyen Trai intersection.
"It took me many red lights and it took me about 15 minutes to get out of the intersection. I didn't think there would be such a serious traffic jam on the weekend" - Mr. Long said.
Many people said that during the morning rush hour and early afternoon, Nguyen Xien and Khuat Duy Tien streets were seriously congested.
Recently, congestion has often occurred at certain times on Saturdays and Sundays, making it difficult for people to travel.
Previously, on January 18, the Hanoi Department of Transport piloted traffic organization adjustment through the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Xien intersection to limit congestion as well as ensure traffic safety and order.
Along with the pilot adjustment of traffic organization, the Hanoi Department of Transport assigned a specialized unit to complete the installation of a camera system to serve the work of observing and handling fines for violating vehicles in the center of the button and the routes through the button.
According to the Hanoi Department of Transport, the Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Xien intersection is a painful point for traffic congestion during rush hour. The Department and related units have tested models on the machine for many traffic organization options to find the most feasible solution.
After more than a month of traffic reorganization, the Department of Transport assessed that Thanh Xuan intersection is more orderly, reducing potential conflicts and reducing delays for vehicles entering the intersection.
