The Tan Thoi Hiep 21 Road Expansion Project (District 12) is one of the important projects to enhance traffic capacity, contributing to solving the flooding problem. At the same time, it gradually improves the urban area, the environment, and completes the traffic system in the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City.
The Tan Thoi Hiep 21 Road Expansion Project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2016, with an initial construction cost of VND134 billion, to expand the 1.7 km long road to 16 m to improve traffic and reduce flooding, to be implemented in the 2016-2019 period.
The work of compensation, support, resettlement, and site clearance was then implemented as an independent project with a budget of nearly 270 billion VND, invested by the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of District 12. However, due to difficulties in compensation and site clearance, the project could not be implemented.
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved a plan to adjust the total investment to VND1,364 billion, due to the road expansion to 25m, plus compensation costs and construction of a 320m long sewer section on Duong Thi Muoi Street (formerly Tan Chanh Hiep 21 Street).
Actual records show that the route is more than 1.7 km long, starting at National Highway 1 and ending at Duong Thi Muoi Street, with high traffic density. However, the existing road surface is quite narrow, so traffic jams often occur during rush hour.
Along the route, there are some damaged, degraded, and makeshift sections that make travel extremely dangerous for people.
Mr. Tran Van Huong (residing in Hoc Mon district) often travels this route and said that the road has been degraded and full of potholes for many years.
"In the afternoon rush hour, there are many vehicles and the road is narrow, so traveling on this route makes me extremely nervous. I hope the road will be expanded soon so that people can travel more conveniently," said Mr. Huong.
Regarding the project progress, the People's Committee of District 12 informed that the project will reclaim about 15,480 m² of land, affecting 447 cases, including 446 households (37 households must be completely cleared) and one organization.
37 households are expected to be resettled at Tan Tien Resettlement Area, Tan Thoi Hiep Ward, District 12. The apartment sale and rental prices will be approved by District 12 People's Committee and competent authorities according to regulations.
In 2024, the project will be allocated capital to complete procedures, carry out compensation and site clearance.
By 2025, the design of construction drawings and construction estimates will be completed, and construction contractors and supervision consultants will be selected. The project is expected to start construction in 2025, with the goal of completion and commissioning in 2026.
