According to the reflection of the people in the two communes of Ha Son and Ha Dong, Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province, for many years they have had to live in miserable conditions because the Dong Son road (connecting the two communes) has been seriously degraded and surrounded by dust. The cause is the convoy of heavy trucks carrying dirt and rocks, running day and night.
“The road is about 4 km long, but every day there are hundreds of large trucks coming and going carrying dirt and rocks, which road can handle it? Last year (2023), people could not stand the situation, so they brought barrels, rocks, wood, etc. to block the vehicles,” said Mr. Duong Van Hinh (57 years old, in Thanh Mon village, Ha Dong commune).
According to Mr. Hinh, currently in Ha Son commune there are 4 active quarries, and in Ha Dong commune there are also 3 quarries (2 quarries, 1 soil quarry) in operation, most of the trucks carrying soil and rock move to Dong Son road. Meanwhile, in 2008, this road was built by the people with their own money, but over the years the road has deteriorated, making the people even more upset.
According to many residents, households contributed money to build roads for convenient travel, but unexpectedly, after the construction was completed, trucks drove by, causing damage to the roads, creating many potholes. In addition, the racing convoys also posed a potential risk of traffic accidents, and the dust that flew up made trees and crops grow poorly, making people's lives difficult.
According to the representative of the People's Committee of Ha Dong commune, more than 10 years ago, people in Ha Dong and Ha Son communes contributed 400,000 VND/person to build the above road. However, after the quarries came into operation, the road was damaged. After that, the quarry owners also supported money to repair the road. However, with the high traffic volume, the road was damaged again.
Discussing the above issue, a representative of the People's Committee of Ha Trung district, Thanh Hoa province said that the district had received feedback from the people and then requested the mineral exploitation units to fix it. However, up to now, the enterprises have only promised to repair the road.
Regarding the long-term solution, the district has reported to the province, proposing funding sources to repair and upgrade this road. When completed, the mining enterprises will be required to sign a commitment that if the road is damaged, it must be repaired immediately. Only then can the road be regularly maintained and repaired.
