From the morning of July 23, under the impact of storm circulation No. 2 , Hanoi recorded a change in weather to showers and thunderstorms.
On the afternoon and evening of July 23 to the morning of July 24, the inner city of Hanoi and surrounding areas showed signs of increasing intensity and rainfall.
The impact of the widespread rain caused many roads to be heavily flooded, including Hoang Tung Street (Hoai Duc district), section of Nam An Khanh Urban Area.
It was noted that on the morning of July 24, the water level here rose to the knees of passersby. Heavy rain and deep flooding make it very difficult for vehicles to move.
A series of vehicles stalled, causing traffic congestion to become even more serious. Many people take up to an hour to get to work.
People living here said they are too familiar with floods even though they live in an urban area. As long as heavy rain lasts all night or all day, people have to endure flooding.
"In recent times, flooding during heavy rains has often occurred in this area" - Mr. Nguyen Sy Dong (56 years old, An Khanh, Hoai Duc) said, due to heavy rainfall during the system. The drainage could not drain in time, causing serious flooding.
On the outside of Hoang Tung Street, many cellars of adjacent villas were submerged in water , people had to use high-capacity pumps to push the water out.
Many motorbikes have to rely on the support of specialized trucks to cross flooded sections.
"Flooding rains seriously disrupt people's lives, it takes a lot of time to travel through flooded areas to get to work" - Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van (29 years old, An Khanh, Hoai Duc) lamented.
Regarding the above issue, Chairman of An Khanh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Quy Tuan said that the level of flooding here depends on the section but most are about 40-50cm deep. The deepest flooded section is at the gate welcoming Nam An Khanh to the intersection of Thang Long Avenue.
"Currently, the locality has operated all pumps and drainage canals at full capacity to quickly resolve the flooding situation" - Mr. Tuan said.
