Efforts to eliminate unnamed roads
On August 1, Mr. Truong Chi Trung - Director of Quang Tri Department of Construction confirmed that the unit is actively coordinating with localities to build and complete a plan to identify locations and number houses.
Currently, all 78/78 communes, wards, and special zones in the province have had their plans approved; 100% of localities have established Steering Committees and developed specific implementation plans.
According to statistics from the Department of Construction, the whole province still has 53 communes and special zones with "white" street names and 17 communes that have only completed naming in central areas. To speed up the progress, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has allocated funding to support, and at the same time assigned the Department of Construction to guide localities to prepare dossiers to name streets and submit them to competent authorities for approval.
Previously, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province directed departments, branches and localities to accelerate the implementation of the plan to identify locations and number houses. Identifying, numbering and attaching house number plates not only helps to manage residents effectively but must also be synchronized with the national database, serving the development of smart cities, promoting digital transformation and improving the quality of service for people and businesses.
Worrying about choosing street names, proposing QR code integration
In Con Tien commune, the locality has just organized to collect people's opinions to complete the plan to identify locations and number houses.
Ms. Tran Thi Oanh - Chairwoman of Con Tien Commune People's Committee said that this work is divided by the locality into two phases: Quarter III/2026 will focus on numbering and attaching house number plates and Quarter IV/2026 will proceed to name roads.
According to the plan, in the initial phase, Con Tien commune will name 5 provincial roads, 10 commune roads, 57 village roads and attach signs to 3,168 households. Currently, the commune is studying socialization plans to design beautiful and synchronous house number signs; and at the same time, absorbing people's opinions on researching the integration of QR codes on street name signs to support quick information lookup.
However, choosing street names at the grassroots level is still a major concern.
The province allows localities to choose to name streets according to codes or names of celebrities, place names, and historical events. If using codes, it is quite dry, but if choosing names of celebrities to be close, the people with meritorious services and influence from Con Tien commune who are available in the province's name bank are not many," Ms. Oanh shared.
