After many hours of mobilizing equipment for land excavation, dredging, and clearing the flow, by nearly 10 am today (7.8), National Highway 12 passing through Huổi Lèng Commune, Mường Chà District, Điện Biên Province has been temporarily opened.
In a conversation with Lao Động Newspaper reporter, Mr. Trần Quang Huy - Deputy Director of 226 Road Corporation stated that the opening of the road is only temporary to ensure that people and vehicles do not experience prolonged congestion.
“Due to the large amount of landslide soil and mud overflowing onto the road, spanning approximately 100m, the recovery work is still ongoing and will take several more hours to complete and ensure safety for vehicles passing through” - Mr. Huy added.
Earlier, as Lao Động Newspaper had reported, a large rainstorm occurred at dawn on 7.8, causing National Highway 12 passing through Huổi Lèng Commune, Mường Chà District, Điện Biên Province to be buried under approximately 100m of mud and soil. Dozens of households were flooded, and some assets were swept away, fortunately, there were no casualties.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Mường Chà District Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue deployed forces to assist residents in recovering from the aftermath, relocating assets. At the same time, they coordinated with the Department of Transportation to divert traffic and make every effort to open the road.
