From November 18, the Cat Linh - Ha Dong railway will use new ticket cards

According to Hanoi Metro One Member Co., Ltd., the 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway line will use new ticket cards from November 18.

A representative of Hanoi Metro said that from August 20, 2025 to present, the unit has tested the electronic identification, authentication and biometric identification system on route 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong, receiving the support and active participation of the people with nearly 9,000 registrants and more than 116,000 passengers using it.

Hanoi Metro will convert the entire automatic ticket collection system (AFC) on the 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway line to a new system, upgraded to deploy solutions for application of identification, electronic authentication and biometric identification. This system uses electronic ticket cards/NFC cards/citizen identification cards/Visa bank payment cards, starting from November 18.

From now until November 18, Hanoi Metro will convert the identification information and tickets according to the time (day tickets, weekly tickets, monthly tickets) of passengers in use, from the old system (chip-embedded tickets) to the new system (electronic tickets/NFC cards/citizen identification cards/smart Europay cards, Master card, Visa), with the remaining value on the card kept the same.

The conversion is carried out at 12 stations on route 2A. Passengers should note to bring a chip-embedded citizen ID card and a smartphone to convert the old ticket.

From November 10 to 15, Hanoi Metro temporarily suspended the sale of daily, weekly and monthly tickets according to the old system at ticket booths to serve the system upgrade.

Passengers can still buy single-trip tickets in the old form at the automatic ticket vending machines at stations for travel, and can continue to buy weekly and monthly tickets at the counter but under the new ticket card model (e-tickets on mobile phones with identification or electronic tickets attached to citizen identification cards, or NFC cards for children without identification).

During this time, each station will still maintain the operation of two old ticket control gates to serve passengers who are using old tickets and have not yet had time to convert.

From November 16, Hanoi Metro will stop automatic ticket vending machines to upgrade technology, meeting the requirements of implementing the ticket sales process under the new system.

From November 18, 100% of passengers on route 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong will use the ticket gate system for identification, electronic authentication and biometric identification. Old ticket cards will no longer be used on this route, said a representative of Hanoi Metro.

From November 18, passengers using single-trip tickets on the Cat Linh - Ha Dong route will be divided into two groups:

Passengers with smartphones: download and install the Hanoi Metro application to buy single-trip tickets. After payment, passengers will receive a QR code on the application to scan through the ticket gate.

Passengers without a smartphone: Buy a ticket directly at the ticket counter and are issued a ticket stamp with a QR code for one-time use through the ticket checking portal (QR tickets are only issued once upon purchase).

For passengers over 60 years old who are exempted from tickets according to the city's policy: they can use a chip-embedded citizen identification card to go through the ticket check-in portal, or download the Hanoi Metro application and perform identification to receive free tickets on the application.

Passengers who are using pilot electronic tickets issued by the Hanoi Traffic Management and Operation Center need to go to the ticket counter to be guided to switch to a new type of electronic ticket equivalent to the ticket type, ticket price and validity period, ensuring convenience during the new system.
