3 major problems assigned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on strategic technology development

The Prime Minister assigned the task of developing strategic technology to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to preside over three major issues.

In Decision No. 808/QD-TTg dated May 6, 2026 of the Prime Minister on assigning tasks for strategic technology development, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to preside over three major issues, including:

Ensure energy security for high growth; modernize green, smart and self-reliant electricity - fuel systems

- Implementation time: 2026-2030.

Ensure sufficient, stable and safe energy for high growth; improve self-reliance capacity, reserves and operation of the national energy system; modernize the electricity - fuel system towards flexibility, intelligence, low emissions, effective integration of renewable energy and gradually master key technologies.

- Strategic technology: Advanced energy and material technology; Digital technology; Robotics and automation technology; Marine, ocean and underground technology.

- Strategic technology products: Digital copy platform; specialized AI; Advanced batteries and integrated energy storage systems (BESS); Green hydrogen, biofuel production, storage, transportation and distribution systems; High-voltage, super-high-voltage electrical equipment; electric machines, electric motors and modern, high-performance electric transmission - transmission systems; Carbon capture, use and storage systems; Equipment, services and systems for deep seas, marine works and offshore energy; Deep-scale exploitation, processing and deep-scale processing products from oil and gas.

Industrial autonomy, improving the localization rate and upgrading green, smart, high value-added production chains

- Implementation time: 2026-2030.

Forming self-reliance in key industries, key industries, supporting industries and key production - export; mastering core stages of materials, design, manufacturing, system integration, smart production and deep processing; improving the rate of localization, added value, capacity to meet green - digital standards and the ability to participate more deeply in the global value chain.

- Strategic technology: Digital technology; Robot and automation technology; Advanced energy and material technology; Advanced biotechnology and biomedicine; Marine, ocean and ground technology; High-speed railway and urban railway technology.

- Strategic technology products: specialized AI; AI camera processing at the edge; Digital copy platform; Blockchain network infrastructure and traceability system; Self-propelled mobile robots and industrial robots; Systems, platforms, solutions serving smart production; Advanced materials and high-performance functional materials for the processing and manufacturing industry; Production, harvesting, deep processing of agricultural products and by-products and biomass systems; Deep mining and processing systems and deep processed products from minerals, oil and gas and rare earths; Industrial platforms, vehicles, equipment and integrated high-speed railway and urban railway systems.

Modernizing domestic and foreign trade with data, smart logistics and reliable supply chains

- Implementation time: 2026-2030.

Forming national trade management capacity based on real-time data; ensuring smooth, transparent, safe and reliable goods circulation; reducing logistics costs, improving compliance capacity, traceability, expanding markets and increasing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods and businesses.

- Strategic technology: Digital technology; Robotics and automation technology.

- Strategic technology products: specialized AI; AI camera processing at the edge; Digital copy platform; Blockchain network infrastructure and traceability system; Self-propelled mobile robots and industrial robots.
