Using AI to control breeds, pests and diseases
In July 2026, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy and also approved the investor for the AI Coffee Research and Development Institute Project - Gia Lai implemented by Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd. (An Phu ward, Gia Lai province).
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province, the project is implemented on an area of 157ha in Dak Doa commune with a total investment of 326 billion VND, entirely from business capital.
The highlight of the project is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in raw material area management, pest and disease forecasting and monitoring, contributing to improving production efficiency and minimizing risks in cultivation. According to the plan, the project will be put into operation from the fourth quarter of 2028.
The Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment said that Vinh Hiep Co., Ltd. is currently linked to production with more than 20,000 farming households, exporting products to more than 60 countries and territories, accounting for over 12% of Vietnam's Robusta coffee export output.
Gia Lai determines that coffee continues to be a key export commodity.
Farmer - business - state linkage
Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan requested localities to strongly shift from administrative management thinking to constructive administration, taking people and businesses as the center of service. In the agricultural sector, the focus is on developing high technology, standardizing raw material areas and building a close linkage chain between businesses, people and the government.
Gia Lai also tightens the management of planting area codes and traceability to protect the reputation of exported agricultural products. The Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Provincial Police to proactively detect, investigate and strictly handle fraudulent acts in the use of planting area codes, packaging facility codes as well as related legal violations. In the first 6 months of 2026, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and competent agencies have issued 90 more export planting area codes to Gia Lai, increasing the total number to 400 codes with an area of more than 12,162ha. Of which, there are 345 planting area codes for export and 55 planting area codes for domestic production.
This is an important step forward in standardizing agricultural production, helping Gia Lai agricultural products meet the standards of demanding markets such as the EU, USA, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and China.
