Although there are still many difficulties in infrastructure, with the goal of becoming a dynamic international border economic zone, Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate is expected to attract investment and promote border trade.
On June 25, 2024, the authorities of Vietnam and China officially held a ceremony to announce the upgrading of the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) border gate to a pair of bilateral border gates, including the Bac Phong Sinh (Vietnam) - Ly Hoa (China) Customs Clearance.
The Ministry of Transport is working with local authorities to study and build a road connecting Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate with the Hai Phong - Mong Cai Expressway. This is an important step in improving traffic connectivity.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung - Deputy Head of Bac Phong Sinh Customs Branch - said: Traffic infrastructure is very important in promoting trade activities at the border gate. Not to mention, since August 20, 2024, National Highway 18B was eroded, vehicles going to the border gate had to change direction, causing disruption for 2 months, leading to many difficulties in import and export activities. By the end of November 2024, Bac Phong Sinh Customs Branch had collected over 13 billion VND in state budget, an increase of 23.44% over the same period in 2023, but only reached 91.76% of the unit's target.
On December 20, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Decision No. 1618/QD-TTg approving the Master Plan for the construction of Bac Phong Sinh border gate economic zone, Quang Ninh province until 2045.
Accordingly, Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate Economic Zone belongs to the administrative boundary of the entire Quang Duc commune, Hai Ha district, with a total area of about 9,373.43 hectares.
The planning objective is to build Bac Phong Sinh into a dynamic, smart international border gate economic zone, developing trade, services, tourism, logistics and supporting industries. Closely linked with neighboring border gate economic zones such as Hoanh Mo - Dong Van, Mong Cai and Hai Ha seaport industrial zone.
In terms of nature, this economic zone will focus on developing trade, services, small-scale industry, high-value agriculture and forestry, and urban residential areas in border areas. In particular, the infrastructure system will be invested synchronously, creating a favorable environment to attract businesses and investors.
Ms. Ly Thi Tinh - 45 years old, Quang Duc commune, Hai Ha district - shared: "The export of goods at Bac Phong Sinh border gate currently depends a lot on the border trade policy of China, so the quantity of goods passing through the border gate is not much. The supporting infrastructure at the border gate area lacks many essential items such as hotels, shopping malls, restaurants. I hope that when the border gate economic zone is built, more businesses will come here, helping to create jobs and improve the quality of life for the people."
The development planning of Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate Economic Zone focuses on maximizing land exploitation, ensuring sustainable development and harmony between functional spaces.
Border gate areas, trade services, logistics, industrial production, tourism and residential areas will be reasonably distributed, forming an effective overall border economic development.
With these steps forward, Bac Phong Sinh promises to become an important trading hub, contributing positively to the socio-economic development of Quang Ninh province and the Vietnam-China border area.
