According to the Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), industrial production in August continued to record growth momentum. The industrial production index in August is estimated to increase by 2.2% compared to the previous month and increase by 8.9% compared to the same period last year. In the first 8 months of 2025, the industrial production index increased by 8.5% over the same period last year.
The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in August is estimated to increase by 2.2% compared to the previous month and increase by 8.9% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.5% over the same period last year; the mining industry increased by 9.1%; electricity production and distribution increased by 6.1%; the water supply industry, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 2.4%.
In the first eight months of 2025, IIP is estimated to increase by 8.5% over the same period last year (same period in 2024 increased by 8.4%). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10%; the water supply, waste management and treatment industry increased by 9.1%; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.9%.
The industrial production index for the first eight months of 2025 of some key industries at level II increased compared to the same period last year: Motor vehicle manufacturing increased by 27.4%; rubber and plastic products increased by 17.5%; production of non-metallic mineral products increased by 15%; garment production increased by 13.9%; leather and related products increased by 13.4%; production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 12%...
On the contrary, IIP index of some industries increased or decreased: hardened and non-ferrous coal mining increased by 3.9%; beverage production increased by 2.6%; crude oil and natural gas mining decreased by 5.5%.
The industrial production index in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in all 34 localities. Some localities with IIP achieved a fairly good increase thanks to the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry increased.
The locality has a high production index of the processing and manufacturing industry in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year: Quang Ninh increased by 32.1%; Phu Tho increased by 27.3%; Ninh Binh increased by 23.7%; Hue increased by 17.7%; Hai Phong increased by 16.4%; Thanh Hoa increased by 16.3%.
Localities with high production index of electricity production and distribution industry: Hue increased by 39.5%; Nghe An increased by 27.6%; Phu Tho increased by 14.0%.
On the contrary, some localities have a low IIP increase due to the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry and the electricity production and distribution industry increase or decrease.
The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of August 1, 2025 increased by 0.9% compared to the same period last month and increased by 4.7% compared to the same period last year.
Of which, the corresponding ratio of State-owned enterprises increased by 0.1% compared to the same period last month and increased by 2.3% compared to the same period last year; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 1.1% and increased by 5.4%; non-state enterprises increased by 0.7% and increased by 3.0%.
According to the operating industry, the number of workers working in mining enterprises remains unchanged compared to the same period last month and increased by 2% compared to the same period last year; the number of workers in the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1% and increased by 4.9%; the manufacturing and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning industry increased by 0.1% and increased by 2.8%; the water supply industry, waste management and treatment activities increased by 0.4% and increased by 2%.
