In Ho Chi Minh City, on streets such as Trinh Hoai Duc (Binh Thanh District), Pham Van Dong (Thu Duc City), ... there are many trucks selling oranges with prices ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg.
Stopping to buy 5kg of oranges at a rescue point on 3/2 Street (District 10), Ms. Bui Thi Loan, living in District 11, shared: "In the past few years, I often see some orange rescue points with quite cheap prices. The oranges are of very good quality, beautiful and juicy, but they cannot be sold, it is a pity for the farmers, so I bought them to support them."
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, living in District 8, said: "My family often buys oranges to squeeze juice to drink. Normally, oranges are very cheap, at 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, but now many places sell them for less than 10,000 VND/kg."
On social networking sites, many groups also posted information about rescuing pomelos from gardens in the West at prices starting at 4,000 VND/kg.
"The price of oranges at the garden is only 2,000-4,000 VND/kg, causing many difficulties for farmers and heavy losses. Therefore, when transporting them to Ho Chi Minh City, we only help sell them without taking any fees" - said Ms. Quynh Anh - representative of a group rescuing oranges on Truong Chinh Street (Tan Binh District).
According to traders, the reason for this low price is that the area of oranges grown in gardens has increased rapidly, supply exceeds demand, while market purchasing power is weak. Oranges are not exported much, mainly consumed domestically.
