On the afternoon of August 4, Can Tho City People's Committee worked with the Ministry of Industry and Trade working delegation led by Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai on industrial and energy development orientations and the implementation of key projects in the area.
According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the locality has 57 power source projects with a total capacity of 12,192.7MW. Among them, 16 plants have been operated with a total capacity of about 2,504.5 MW; 9 projects are under construction with a total capacity of 5,092.5 MW; 14 projects have been granted investment policy approvals, with a total capacity of 3,083.8 MW. There are still 18 projects without investors that are selecting investors with a total capacity of 1, 512 MW.
Regarding power grids and substations, there are 6 500kV substations with a total capacity of 17,700MVA and 9 500kV power lines with a total length of 471.9km; 15 220kV substations with a total capacity of 6,875MVA and 27 220kV power lines with a total length of 1,278.96km.
To date, the total capacity of commercially operated power sources and projects that have been granted investment policies has reached 10,680.7 MW, equivalent to 87.6% of the total planned capacity assigned (12,192.7 MW).
Mr. Huynh Thanh Su - Deputy Director of Can Tho City Department of Industry and Trade said that the city has drastically directed departments, branches and localities to coordinate and support investors to implement power source projects according to the plan. At the same time, the city proactively works with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and central ministries and branches to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles.
In addition, compensation, support for resettlement, site clearance and completion of investment procedures are accelerated, creating favorable conditions for projects to be constructed and put into operation on schedule.
Regarding limitations and obstacles, Mr. Huynh Thanh Su said that some key power source projects are still behind schedule, with the risk of not being guaranteed according to the approved plan, typically the O Mon II and Song Hau II projects.
Although the investor selection has been actively accelerated, to date, there are still 18 power source projects with a total capacity of 1,512 MW that have not completed investor selection procedures. In addition, the investment progress of power source projects and 500 kV and 220 kV transmission grid projects is still slow and not synchronized, affecting the project implementation process.
Mr. Truong Thanh Hoai - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized that after the merger, Can Tho has great energy potential. In addition to promoting energy development, it also contributes to the development of renewable energy industry, and promotes industrial and commercial development.
The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade also clearly stated that, identifying Can Tho as a key area, therefore, the Ministry will have to focus in the near future to create planning and remove policy mechanisms to promote.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai, in the face of the rapid increase in electricity demand, the current development progress of the power source and grid system is facing many challenges, making it difficult to meet socio-economic development requirements in the coming time.
Therefore, reviewing and adjusting planning and ensuring the progress of energy projects is an important and urgent task.
