Thach Khe iron mine has reserves of 544 million tons, and is considered the largest in Southeast Asia. This mine is located in Thach Khe commune, Ha Tinh province.
The project is invested by Thach Khe Iron Joint Stock Company, deployed to remove the topsoil layer in 2009, and stopped completely in 2011 (due to lack of capital) until now.
For many years, Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee has proposed to stop this project on the grounds that the exploitation technology is not guaranteed, posing many environmental consequences, the risk of lowering groundwater sources, causing desertification...
The termination of the project's operation with the investor being Thach Khe Iron Joint Stock Company will open up opportunities to select new investors with capacity, modern mining technology, minimizing environmental impact, and linking raw material exploitation with deep processing.
