Ho Chi Minh City - Traditional markets have been operating again but without customers, goods are not volatile in supply and price.

After the Lunar New Year holiday, business activities in traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City are still less exciting. Many small businesses in the markets have not been re -sold, the purchasing power has not shown signs of recovery, revenue decreases significantly.

“Guests mainly focus on vegetables and fresh foods, and other industries have no buyers. I have opened for sale for about 2-3 days to get the day and let it be sad. Guests almost did not buy ” - Ms. Ngoc Thuong, small businesses in Ba Chieu market (Binh Thanh district) said.

One of the notable fluctuations is the unexpected change of vegetable price. As noted, the price of some items such as suffering, tomatoes and lettuce has dropped sharply in just one week.

Suffering decreased from nearly 30,000 VND/kg to 10,000-15,000 VND/kg, tomatoes from 35,000 VND/kg to 15,000-20,000 VND/kg; Dalat lettuce from nearly 50,000 VND/kg to about 20,000-25,000 VND/kg. The main reason is said to be a supply from the abundant Unit market, leading to a decrease in retail price.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung - Deputy Head of Trade Management Department, Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City said that thanks to synchronous solutions implemented since the beginning of 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City market during the Lunar New Year 2025 did not occur the situation of goods. or price fever.

Promotion and discount programs are widely implemented before, during and after Tet, contributing to the purchasing power. Businesses stabilizing the market have shown professionalism, compliance with regulations and ensure balance of supply and demand.

However, the consumption habits of the people have changed a lot. Purchasing power at traditional channels such as markets and grocery stores continues to decline, while modern distribution channels have significant growth.

According to the Statistics Office of Ho Chi Minh City, in January 2025, the market stabilization program of Ho Chi Minh City continued to promote efficiency. Businesses ensure the supply of goods throughout, serving people before, during and after Tet.

The market price of goods and services in the area remains stable. Consumer price index (CPI) in January increased by 0.92% compared to the previous month and increased by 4.29% over the same period.
