The cybersecurity incident at the National Credit Information Center (CIC) caused a stir in public opinion. Many credit card users are worried that sensitive data could be leaked, leading to financial insecurity.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, cybersecurity expert Ngo Minh Hieu said: Banks do not send sensitive data such as card number, expiration date, CVV/CVC code, OTP or password to CIC. Therefore, customers' transactions and credit card information are completely unaffected".
Mr. Hieu further emphasized that false rumors can make many people confused, even rushing to change their cards. However, users should stay calm, because the bank's security process does not allow sharing this confidential information outside.
Previously, on the evening of September 11, the Government Electronic Information Portal cited information from the Vietnam cyberspace Emergency Response Center (VNCERT) confirming a cybersecurity incident at CIC, with initial results showing signs of cybercrime attacks and personal data appropriation. response and prevention measures have been urgently deployed in coordination with Viettel, VNPT, NCS, CIC and functional units of the State Bank.
Currently, the amount of data being misappropriated is still being counted and clarified. VNCERT recommends that organizations and individuals do not arbitrarily download, share or exploit leaked data, to avoid the risk of being taken advantage of to spread malware and defraud property. At the same time, financial institutions and banks are required to review and apply TCVN 14423:2025 standards to enhance system security.
