As one of the main crops, tea has long played an important role in the agricultural structure of Thai Nguyen province, creating sustainable livelihoods for people in the tea land.
According to information from the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province, Thai Nguyen is currently the locality with the highest area, productivity, output and income from tea trees in the country.

After the merger of administrative units, the whole province has nearly 24,000 hectares of tea, of which nearly 23,000 hectares are harvesting products, with an average yield of nearly 180 quintals/ha.
Thai Nguyen is also the province with the largest number of OCOP processed tea products in the country, with 207 products certified from 3 to 5 stars.
However, the Thai Nguyen tea industry has not yet fully exploited its inherent potential. Household agricultural production still accounts for a large proportion, the scale of enterprises and cooperatives is still small.

In addition, the application of science and technology in planting, care and processing is still limited, many tea areas do not have smart irrigation systems.
In light of that reality, Thai Nguyen province will spend more than 500 billion VND to promote the development of the tea industry in the period of 2025 - 2030.
The investment focuses on improving production value, technical assistance, product standardization, technology application, brand building and market development.
Specific contents include support for new planting, certification of production according to VietGAP or organic, granting of growing area codes, economical irrigation systems and purchasing of tea processing machinery.

The province also supports the development and certification of a quality management system, intellectual property registration, OCOP product development, brand promotion and trade promotion.
Tea growers are supported with 100% of seed purchase costs and 70% of fertilizer costs for each new crop is supported at one time.
For VietGAP-performing tea production models or organic on an area of 5 hectares or more, people will be supported with 100% of the initial certification fee.

With a chain development orientation, the province emphasizes the application of technology, deep processing, innovation and digital transformation in tea production and trading.
Along with that, the development of high-quality products with good added value will contribute to enhancing the Thai Nguyen tea brand in the domestic and international markets.
According to the roadmap, Thai Nguyen province aims to achieve a total value of tea products of VND 25,000 billion by 2030, gradually building the tea industry into a billion-dollar sector.
