School devastated by floods
On August 5, speaking with reporters, Mr. Tran Gia Thao, Principal of Muong tip 2 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Muong tip commune, Nghe An province) said that up to now, the school's cleaning work after floods has almost been completed, but the school is facing new concerns.

After the historic flood at the end of July 2025, Muong tip 2 Primary School was seriously buried in mud and waste. Although the huge amount of mud and soil has been basically cleared, the school is currently facing a big concern: a serious shortage of boarding facilities for 150 ethnic minority students.
"We were stunned when we returned to school. All were submerged in thick mud, many classrooms and dormitories were buried up to half a meter. The tables and chairs were overturned, the rice pots, blankets, and school supplies were broken or lost. Almost nothing is left intact" - Mr. Tran Gia Thao, Principal of the school shared with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter.
Although located in the mountainous areas of the border, Muong tip 2 is a bright spot in the boarding model - where hundreds of Mong, Thai, and Kho Mu ethnic students are provided with free accommodation to maintain their studies. But after the flood, the entire boarding house became a pile of rubble: the dining hall collapsed, the corrugated iron roof was knocked down, the toilets were swept away, the schoolyard was full of broken bricks, rotten wood and dry tree remains.
The mud is cleared, the boarding area is "empty-handed"

With the support of border guards, teachers and volunteers, about 70% of the mud has been cleared. However, the problem of "clearing mud" is more difficult: there are no more tools to organize boarding.
"Currently, the belongings for boarding students such as shelters, blankets, pots and pans, bowls with chopsticks, fans, storage closets... are almost lost. Currently, there is a great need for tools for reconstruction, to serve boarding students" - Mr. Thao said.
"We sincerely hope the community will help. Each mat and blanket is enough for the children to stay and study, without having to cross the forest every day. This is not only material support - but also a way to save the future of children in the border area" - Mr. Thao called for.

According to initial statistics, the total damage to the school's facilities amounted to about 1.8 billion VND, including: 15 damaged classrooms, all classrooms, classrooms, dining rooms, dining rooms, electrical systems, water, surrounding walls and kitchen appliances were destroyed or buried.
Meanwhile, resources for recovery are still extremely limited. Currently, the school is making a list of necessary items, hoping to receive timely support to organize boarding activities before the opening day.
