These days, farmer households in Dong Thanh commune (Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province) are entering the harvest season of sweet tea. Thanks to favorable weather and good care techniques, high fruit yield, harvested output increased sharply.
With 130 sweet and sweet Thanh Tra root, Mr. Truong Van Hoang - Member of Thanh Tra Cooperative (Binh Minh Town, Vinh Long Province) - said, thanks to the initiative in handling pollination and flowering process, so flowering Thanh tea productivity has reached the highest in the past few years. For 7 years old tree, Mr. Hoang harvested about 40 kg.
“My garden has been harvested for 10 days, an average of 350 - 400 kg/day. It is expected that the harvest time lasts from 2 to 2.5 months, divided into several batches, ”Mr. Hoang said.
Mr. Huynh Van Up - Director of Dong Thanh Sweet Tra Cooperative - said: Previously, the sweet tea bar depends a lot on the weather but since applying the measures to flower the tree as desired, the fruit output increased significant.
Accordingly, this year's fruit rate is about 90%, 30% higher than the natural flower tea trees. The tea tree trees for 14-15 years, after being treated with techniques, the average harvest is over 100 kg/tree.
“When applying the technique to the production process, I can take the initiative in caring as well as adjusting the time of flowering and fruiting as you like. At that time, farmers can be divided into several harvest, not both congested and improved the value of the tea bar, ”Mr. Update shared.
Profit increased from 40%
Along with high productivity, Mr. Hoang is still excited when this year's tea bar price has increased significantly. If in the previous years, sweet tea ranges at 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, this fruit is currently purchased by traders for 160,000 VND/kg.
“This is a bumper year of the cooperative. From the production process, harvest to the price is good. Despite the high price, the sweet tea still attracts goods, many traders from Ho Chi Minh City come to buy and harvest as much as they sell. Thanks to that, the estimated profit increased from 40 - 45% last year, ”Mr. Hoang said.
After this case, Mr. Hoang will nourish the garden and continue to apply the technique to help the tea bar bloom early and extend the harvest time next year.
According to Mr. Update, the first sweet tea bar now has a wholesale price of 160,000 VND/kg and retail 200,000 VND/kg. With the output is quite small compared to the market demand, the sweet tea is very attractive despite the high price. The estimated profit increased from 40 - 50%, making farmers happy.
