Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - Deputy General Director of BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company, said that the enterprise has sent an official document proposing to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to build two smart 6-storey pig farm complex projects in Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc.
Of which, the project in Tan Chau (Tay Ninh) has a scale of 64,000 breeding pigs, producing about 1.6 million commercial pigs per year. The remaining project is located in Dong Phu (Binh Phuoc), raising 20,000 boars, producing about 500,000 commercial pigs.
Both groups are expected to be deployed according to the closed multi-storey farm model, applying advanced technology from one of the largest pig farming enterprises in China. This is a model that has been successfully implemented with a waste treatment, air filtration, deodorization and optimal environmental protection system.
BAF Vietnam representative admitted that there are currently no specific regulations on livestock density for multi-storey farms. Although Vietnam has issued TCVN 14209:2024 standards for this model, legal criteria such as construction licensing, environmental impact assessment and risk control are still lacking and unclear, causing difficulties in completing documents.
According to Mr. Pham Kim Dang - Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Vietnamese law does not prohibit raising livestock in high-rise buildings, and this model is in line with the orientation of developing high-tech agriculture, saving land funds and following the trend of modernizing production.
However, Mr. Dang emphasized the risk of the epidemic spreading rapidly in a closed, high-density environment like a multi-storey farm. In addition to epidemiological factors, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine requires businesses to proactively deploy a waste treatment system that meets standards, develop a clear plan for slaughter, processing, traceability and consumption - export orientation for output products.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien highly appreciated the efforts of BAF Vietnam in the process of innovation and development of Vietnam's livestock industry. In the spirit of encouraging and creating conditions for businesses to feel secure in investing, the Deputy Minister requested the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to closely coordinate with BAF Vietnam Agricultural Joint Stock Company to carefully review the legal basis and regulations to deploy infrastructure.
"BaF must develop a risk response plan, a product consumption and export plan, as well as complete related procedures before implementing them in practice. This is an important preparation step to promote the industrialization of pig farming, contributing to stabilizing supply and enhancing the domestic product value chain," Deputy Minister Tien suggested.
Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment had issued a document proposing to rectify animal slaughter activities nationwide. Accordingly, the Ministry proposes to prioritize planning and developing a centralized slaughter network to meet the requirements of veterinary hygiene and food safety. Localities are encouraged to implement proactive monitoring programs for animal-based foods, contributing to improving quality and consumer confidence.
