Abundant supply, purchasing power focuses on year-end gifts
According to records from localities, supermarket systems, shopping centers and traditional markets have all fully prepared goods to serve Tet. No shortages, supply disruptions or unusual fluctuations were recorded. Circulation and distribution activities took place smoothly, meeting the increasing consumer demand at the end of the year.
Purchasing power on the 29th of Tet mainly focuses on items serving year-end worship and New Year's Eve worship such as roosters, sticky rice, banh chung, gio cha, fresh flowers, fruits and incense offerings. Consumption trends show that people prioritize buying additional items close to the time of use, choosing fresh, delicious products with beautiful appearances and clear origins. In urban areas, the demand for ready-to-use services, pre-orders and fast delivery continues to increase.
Prices are generally stable, especially at modern distribution channels. At some traditional markets, fresh food and fruit prices have slightly increased locally due to short-term demand, but no new price levels have been created and no sudden price increases, speculation or hoarding have occurred.
The preparation of goods sources for Tet is deployed early by localities, closely following demand forecasts. Because the Lunar New Year is far from the New Year, businesses have conditions to develop production plans, stockpile and consolidate distribution systems early.
The total value of inventory increased by about 10–15% compared to the normal month; at some large distribution enterprises, the inventory of many essential goods increased by 20–40% to ensure that there is no shortage of goods in all situations. Goods serving Tet are concentrated in food, fresh and processed food, confectionery, drinks, gasoline and oil... with diverse types and rich designs, meeting both consumer and gift needs.
Besides traditional channels, modern retail systems such as WinMart, Saigon Co. op, Lotte Mart, AEON and MM Mega Market have proactively expanded their sources of goods, implemented many promotions, discounts of up to 50% in many Tet commodity groups, and promoted online sales and on-site delivery, reducing peak shopping pressure.
34 localities implement market stabilization programs
Implementing the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, so far 34 provinces and cities have issued plans or reports to implement the market stabilization program for the Binh Ngo Tet 2026. The program is socialized, mainly using self-financing capital from businesses; units commit to selling goods lower than market prices by 5–10% and maintaining stable prices before, during and after Tet.
In Hanoi, there are 19 participating units with about 10,700 price-stabilized sales points. In Ho Chi Minh City, more than 89 units participate, price-stabilized goods account for 23-43% of market share depending on the commodity group, capable of regulating the market when fluctuations occur. 100% price-stabilized goods are domestically produced goods, with clear origins, focusing on food, foodstuffs, spices, confectionery and essential goods.
Absolutely ensure gasoline and oil supply
Implementing the tasks for 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned a total source of gasoline and oil of at least nearly 31.8 million m3/ton (an average of about 2.65 million m3/ton/month), in line with the goal of economic growth. On February 2, 2026, the Domestic Market Department issued Official Dispatch No. 29/TTTN-XD requesting key traders and distribution traders to proactively create sources, ensure circulation reserves according to regulations, and prevent interruptions or local shortages.
On February 16, 2026, the gasoline and oil market is stable, no speculation, hoarding, or illegal gas station closures occurred. Retail prices are implemented according to the operating period on February 12, 2026; businesses strictly comply with price listing, sell at the correct operating price, ensuring quality and selling time. The store system operates continuously and smoothly, meeting the increasing travel and transportation demand during Tet.
Implementing Plan No. 9693/KH-BCĐ389 dated December 5, 2025 on the peak period of combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, the Market Management force nationwide has strengthened inspections of essential goods with high demand during Tet such as food, alcohol, beer, confectionery, cigarettes, cosmetics, electronics, firecrackers...
From February 15, 2026 to 8 am on February 16, 2026, the entire force inspected 2 cases, handled 2 violations; the total amount of fines and money collected from illegal profits reached 2.3 million VND. Goods forced to be destroyed included 60kg of biscuits and 9kg of candies of unknown origin. No prominent large-scale cases related to smuggling, counterfeit goods or food safety violations were recorded.
