According to information from the Tax Department (Ministry of Finance), in the first 6 months of 2025, organizations and individuals doing business on e-commerce platforms and online channels paid about VND 98,000 billion in taxes, an increase of 58% over the same period last year.
Notably, 1,474 traditional business households have converted to enterprises in the first half of the year. In June alone, 910 cases were recorded, accounting for nearly 2/3 of the number of households converting. This is a signal showing the effectiveness of policies to encourage upgrading business models and improving tax compliance.
As of June 30, 2025, about 47,078 business households have registered and used electronic invoices, exceeding the initial forecast by nearly 30%. The popularization of electronic invoices not only helps increase transparency in business, but also facilitates tax authorities in the management process.
Also according to statistics from the tax authority, in the first 5 months of the year, about 137,000 households and individuals with business registration, tax declaration and payment via the electronic information portal. Total paid revenue reached nearly VND1,800 billion, an increase of more than 55% over the same period last year. The Tax Department said that this result comes from promoting propaganda, declaration instructions and direct technical support for taxpayers.
Currently, there are about 725,000 organizations and individuals nationwide doing business on e-commerce platforms, with a total transaction value exceeding VND 75,000 billion, according to data from 439 platforms provided to tax authorities. Tax revenue from this sector has continuously increased in the past three years, from 83,00097,000 billion VND in the period of 20222023 to more than 116,000 billion VND in 2024.
From July 1, 2025, new regulations require e-commerce platforms and digital platforms to deduct and pay VAT and personal income tax on behalf of sellers immediately at the time of successful order confirmation. This is expected to be an important step forward to help limit tax losses and increase management efficiency.
In addition to the tax deduction requirement, the tax authority also recommends that e-commerce platforms and intermediary platforms take advantage of big data and technology to support sellers in fulfilling their tax obligations. At the same time, it reduces administrative procedures, creating more favorable conditions for tax declaration and payment. The Tax Department has currently established a separate handbook for e-commerce activities to support households and individuals doing business in compliance with regulations.
