World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continued to fall sharply. At the end of yesterday's trading session (June 23), WTI and Brent oil prices decreased by 0.9% and 1.1% respectively. During the session, both types of oil at one point fell to the lowest level in nearly four months.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued to decline. At 7:57 am (Vietnam time), WTI oil price was at 72.86 USD/barrel, down 0.35 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.48%. WTI oil price closed the previous trading session at 73.21 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 73.14 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 76.44 USD/barrel, down 0.16 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 0.21%. Brent oil price ended the previous trading session at 76.60 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 76.61 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, oil prices continue to face downward pressure after falling more than 3% in the first session of the week. The main reason comes from the US extending 60 days of easing sanctions against Iran after the first round of peace talks, along with the temporary cessation of fighting in Lebanon, helping to reduce concerns about the risk of energy supply disruption.
In the past three months, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to conflict has caused the global energy market to lose millions of barrels of oil and gas per day. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), at the most stressful time, more than 14 million barrels of oil per day had to be discharged, equivalent to about 14% of global consumption demand.
The market is focusing on monitoring the progress of oil production recovery and export activities of Middle Eastern countries after the war. However, according to an Iranian military source, the number of ships allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz is still limited and must coordinate their routes with the navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran.
Analysts believe that the US easing of sanctions against Iran has not created a significant impact on supply in the short term. The agreement between the US and Iran is only in the early stages, still containing many risks, so the market does not expect oil from Iran to soon return on a large scale.
