According to analysts, investors are placing high hopes on the possibility of the US and Iran soon reaching a ceasefire agreement. The market currently believes that the negotiation process between the two sides may take place smoothly and faster than expected.
The conflict that has lasted for more than 3 months has continuously raised expectations of ending fighting and reopening the Strait of Hormuz - a shipping route that transports about 20% of global oil and natural gas (LNG) supplies. However, although both Washington and Tehran have sent positive signals about the prospects of negotiations, there are still significant differences in the approach and terms of the agreement.
Iranian media reported that the draft agreement mentions reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but the implementation will depend on the conditions and mechanisms determined by Tehran. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump continued to call on Iran to quickly fully restore traffic through this strategic shipping route in order to reduce pressure on the global energy market.
Some experts believe that the US and Iran have reached preliminary agreements regarding the extension of the ceasefire and gradually easing restrictions on maritime activities through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the traffic flow through this area is still significantly lower than before the conflict broke out.
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is assessed to contribute to reducing supply pressure on the oil market in the short term, but the process of fully restoring transportation and trade through this route still needs more time.
In the opposite direction, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said that US crude oil, gasoline and distillate inventories all decreased last week due to increased consumption demand. Meanwhile, US oil exports decreased by 1.16 million barrels/day, to 4.4 million barrels/day.
