World oil prices today
WTI and Brent oil opened the first trading session of the week with a strong upward trend, but then fluctuated continuously; at one point both commodities turned down sharply, up to 2%, and then rebounded. At the end of the session, WTI and Brent oil prices increased by 0.78% and 0.68% respectively.
By this morning's session, both oil commodities continued the upward trend. At 7:54 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 113.29 USD/barrel, up 0.88 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.78%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 112.41 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 112.75 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 110.21 USD/barrel, up 0.52 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.47%. Brent oil price closed the previous trading session at 109.69 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 109.72 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, oil prices rose in the first session of the week as the US and Iran continuously issued tough statements, although the two sides still exchanged through intermediaries to cool down tensions.
To cool down oil prices, the cessation of attacks needs to be accompanied by an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz - a key shipping route, accounting for about 1/5 of global oil and gas supplies. Faced with the risk of disruption, major consuming countries, especially in Asia, are increasing stockpiling or cutting consumption.
The Strait of Hormuz - the oil and oil product transit route from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE is currently largely interrupted, due to attacks targeting ships since the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran broke out on February 28.
