World oil prices today
World gasoline and oil prices continued to rise in the first morning session of the week. At 7:52 am (Vietnam time), WTI crude oil price was at 112.46 USD/barrel, up 0.92 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.82%. WTI oil closed the last week's trading session at 111.54 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 112.97 USD/barrel.
Brent oil price was at 110.86 USD/barrel, up 1.83 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.68%. Brent oil price closed last week's trading session at 109.03 USD/barrel and opened today's session at 111.10 USD/barrel.
According to analysts, crude oil prices continued to rise after President Donald Trump issued a new ultimatum to Iran and increased threats to the country's civilian infrastructure if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has rejected the latest request, causing the Strait of Hormuz - the route that transports about 1/5 of global oil and gas - to continue to be closed. OPEC+ oil exporting countries also warned after last weekend's meeting that war damage to energy infrastructure could have long-term consequences for oil supplies, even if the conflict subsides.
This group has approved increasing production quotas to help solve the global supply shortage. However, Iran said Iraq will be exempted from its restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
