More than 30 gold, diamond, and gemstone businesses in Ho Chi Minh City temporarily suspend operations
Many diamond business stores in Ho Chi Minh City continue to close or temporarily suspend operations. Two branches of Ngoc Chau Au diamond shop have not yet reopened as previously announced, while data on the Vietnam Tax Portal shows that the business has stopped operating but has not completed procedures to terminate the tax code. Many other stores such as Kim Ly, Thuc Lan Diamond, Quyen Diamond, Hoang Thu Jewelry... are also in a similar situation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Jewelry and Gems Association, a preliminary survey by the Association shows that from the beginning of July to now, more than 30 businesses trading in gold, diamonds, and gemstones in Ho Chi Minh City have temporarily suspended operations.
In fact, the number of businesses temporarily suspending opening may be higher because many businesses in this field are not members, not directly under the association, so they have not been fully statistically analyzed. State Bank of Vietnam Branch Region 2 said that violations in the diamond business sector that are being investigated have affected consumer psychology, but recommends not to equate the wrongdoings of some individuals with the entire market. PNJ shares suddenly hit the ceiling after a series of days at the floor
The stock market continued to face selling pressure in the session on July 27 when VN-Index decreased by 17.1 points to 1,669.01 points, marking a 4-week consecutive decline. Liquidity on HOSE reached more than 15,463 billion VND, with 475 stocks decreasing and 30 stocks falling to the floor. Large-cap stock groups such as BID, MWG, HPG, VPB put great pressure on the index.
The bright spot is that PNJ shares unexpectedly hit the ceiling after 4 consecutive floor-dropping sessions thanks to strong bottom-fishing cash flow. Stocks increased by 6.99% to 32,900 VND/share, liquidity of more than 10.2 million units and closed in a white state for sellers. However, PNJ's market price is still about 61% lower than the peak at the beginning of the year, after being affected by the diamond smuggling case related to P-Lab subsidiary and the wave of customers selling diamonds.
In the opposite direction, MWG became the only stock in the VN30 basket to fall to the floor, although revenue in the first 6 months of the year increased by 29%. Securities companies believe that the short-term downward trend of the market still prevails, but VN-Index may have a technical recovery around the support zone of 1,680-1,690 points. See more...
