Proactively prevent floods
These days, farmers in the Pho Tho - Ba Bo ornamental flower village (Can Tho city) have begun to sow flowers to serve the Binh Ngo 2026 Lunar New Year market. Accordingly, long-term flower varieties such as raspberry chrysanthemums, Taiwan chrysanthemums... are prioritized for planting in advance to supply traders in time.

Ms. Tran Thi Kim Nga (a farmer in the Pho Tho - Ba Bo ornamental flower village) shared: "Tet is the main crop, so we have prepared very early. Currently, I am planting chrysanthemums for a long time, this is the beginning of the Tet crop like every year. After planting, the people will focus on taking care of the flowers to ensure the flowers are of the best quality when sold."
Mr. Huynh Van Bang - Director of Pho Tho Ornamental Flower Cooperative (Can Tho City) - said that cooperative members are planting long-term flowers in turn and are expected to last until the beginning of the 11th lunar month.
"My garden alone has planted about 500 pots, mainly flowers grown for a long time, about 7-8 months such as Taiwanese chrysanthemum, Korean raspberry chrysanthemum... We are also testing new varieties, Japanese chrysanthemum with a small quantity, to assess whether they are suitable for local weather and soil conditions or not," said Mr. Bang.

Regarding the weather, Mr. Bang commented that everything is currently stable, favorable for planting. However, according to the forecast, floods may come a lot this year, so the cooperative has reminded people to closely monitor weather developments and high tides, especially from the 10th lunar month onwards. Many members have also proactively made flower beds for Tet to prevent flooding depending on the actual situation.
Production costs increase
Although it is only the early stages of the Tet crop, many farmers have had to face increased production costs.
Sharing about the preparation for the Tet flower crop, Mr. Le Van Ut (a farmer in the Pho Tho - Ba Bo ornamental flower village) expressed: "Making a dish to prevent water from rising is mandatory and annual. The cost of making trays and reinforcements is not significant, but the cost of seeds and especially the price of the body is increasing. Currently, the types of chrysanthemums that have been planted are all developing stably. People hope to have a favorable Tet crop to compensate for the increased input costs".

According to Mr. Bang, some expenses have increased compared to last year, especially expenses for physical expenses. This not only affects the producer but can also affect the price of finished flowers when supplied to the market during Tet. In that situation, the cooperative regularly monitors and reminds members to focus on applying optimal care techniques to minimize other input costs, such as fertilizers and pesticides.
