Learn to eat, learn to speak, learn to... livestream
In the days leading up to Tet, the image of gardeners in Dong La commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi diligently livestreaming to sell orchids on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok has become a familiar trend. Ms. Doanh, owner of Doanh Luc orchid garden, is one of the pioneers applying this method to approach and sell products.
Each of her livestreams is not simply a sale, but also an opportunity for her to share the story behind each orchid pot, from the meticulous care to the selection and pruning of each petal. Thanks to that, she not only attracts buyers but also builds long-term relationships with customers.
“This is a Dai Chau orchid, a big tree, with beautiful jackfruit leaves, plus many color tones including: spotted red, firecracker red, lotus pink, and cow color. The tree is blooming, I will sell it for 18 million VND, nationwide shipping included. Hope you enjoy watching the live stream, remember to follow us,” Ms. Doanh excitedly said during the livestream at 2:30 pm.
This is part of how Ms. Doanh approaches and connects with customers through technology. With an area of over 1,000 m² and a value of up to 5 billion VND, Doanh Luc orchid garden is one of the largest and most prominent orchid gardens in Dong La. Thanks to the combination of tradition and technology, Ms. Doanh's orchid garden has not only grown strongly domestically but also begun to approach international markets.
According to Ms. Doanh, in the context of an increasingly open market, livestream is a powerful marketing tool. Livestreaming not only reaches customers but also helps her share the stories behind the products, creating a sustainable and trustworthy connection. This is how she builds her own brand for her orchid garden.
Along with Ms. Doanh, Mr. Trinh Dac Khanh - owner of Trinh Gia store, has also successfully applied the livestream method since 2011.
Mr. Khanh said: “Initially, the orchid market was quite small, but thanks to creativity in care and product introduction via social networks, we attracted the attention of many customers. During the Lunar New Year last year, our revenue from selling Phalaenopsis orchids reached more than 3 billion VND."
This success is not only the result of applying technology but also a testament to creativity and the desire to overcome traditional barriers. Ms. Doanh, Mr. Khanh as well as many gardeners in Dong La have made constant efforts to develop the orchid growing profession, towards a more sustainable future.
Towards smart agriculture model
While many people are exploiting the benefits of technology, a greater aspiration is still being nurtured in Dong La: Building a large-scale orchid market, a place to display, exchange and trade orchids between growers and customers.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tai Quan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dong La commune, the establishment of a local orchid market will be an important factor in helping Dong La become a famous orchid center not only domestically but also internationally.
“The flower market will be a space for gardeners to interact, exchange experiences, and share knowledge, thereby improving product quality. This is also an opportunity for orchid growers to connect with domestic and foreign partners, expand the consumer market and promote rural tourism,” Mr. Quan shared.
To realize the goal of building an orchid craft village, Dong La commune authorities have proactively implemented many policies to support people, including establishing models of branches and professional associations, creating conditions for households to borrow capital from policy banks and farmer support funds of the city and district.
Each orchid garden here has its own story, a special creation, contributing to enriching Dong La orchid products. For them, each orchid is a source of pride, an indispensable part in preserving and developing the traditional craft of their homeland.
In the future, Dong La will continue to develop a smart agricultural model, combining tradition and modernity, from applying technology in production to promoting and consuming products. In particular, the orchid market will be one of the important highlights, not only creating economic development opportunities for people but also contributing to enhancing the cultural and spiritual values of the flower growing profession in Dong La.
