At the beginning of September, households in Co De Chai village, Bac Ha commune are entering the passion fruit harvest season.
Green trees with many fruits are gradually showing the initial effectiveness of the agricultural model implemented from the resources of the National Target Program.
Mr. Hau Cho Lau - Head of Co De Chai village said that nearly 30 households in the village participate in the passion fruit growing model. Most are poor, near-poor households and households that have just escaped poverty.
The advantage of the model is that people are supported from seedlings, techniques to output.

The State supports seeds; businesses directly guide how to make trellises, care, fertilize, prevent pests and diseases, prune and select fruits, and at the same time guarantee product consumption.
After a period of care, the plant begins to yield harvests. Favorable weather, people can harvest about 2 times a week; when it rains, about once.
The fruit is currently relatively good, the average price is about 30,000 VND/kg. If you choose beautiful fruits, the price can be up to 40,000-50,000 VND/kg," Mr. Lau said.

According to the project, the yellow passion fruit model has a scale of 39.12 ha. The tree starts to be harvested after about 6-8 months; from the second year, the expected yield is stable at about 39 tons/ha in a 2-year cycle.
After deducting costs, the model can bring a profit of over 80 million VND/ha/year.
Not only has economic value, passion fruit is also assessed to be suitable for the climate and soil of the locality.
For poor and near-poor households, this is a condition to take advantage of land and local labor to create additional income.

From revenue, people can continue to invest in production, improve their lives and gradually reduce poverty sustainably.
The participating households are mainly poor, near-poor and newly escaped from poverty. We hope the model will help people have more income, gradually escape poverty and then become well-off," Mr. Lau shared.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Bui Minh Hai - Chairman of Bac Ha Commune People's Committee said that in the period 2021-2025, the locality is invested by the Central Government and the province to implement 3 national target programs.
In the process of implementation, the commune determined that support must be linked to actual needs, creating livelihoods and helping people have conditions for long-term economic development.

Besides investing in infrastructure, we focus resources on developing production, selecting crops and livestock suitable for climate and soil conditions and capable of bringing economic value to people," Mr. Hai said.
According to Mr. Hai, to date, many models have shown initial effectiveness. The locality has developed a herd of about 500 horses, a local pig herd of about 1,600 pigs; and at the same time introduced yellow passion fruit into production.
After about a year of investment, passion fruit has begun to be harvested and is considered one of the crops with high economic efficiency, besides its strong products such as pears and plums.
We expect models like yellow passion fruit to continue to be replicated when they prove effective, thereby helping people have more livelihoods, increase income and gradually escape poverty," Chairman of Bac Ha Commune People's Committee informed.

Stepping into the 2026-2030 period, Bac Ha commune continues to review early the subjects, needs and production advantages of each area to choose suitable models.
Along with completing the rural transport system, the locality will prioritize resources for the development of unique agriculture, improving product value and creating sustainable livelihoods for people.
