Compared to the previous month, the national CPI in October 2024 increased by 0.33% (urban areas increased by 0.38%; rural areas increased by 0.28%).

According to data just released by the General Statistics Office on the morning of November 6, the consumer price index (CPI) in October 2024 increased by 0.33% compared to the previous month, increased by 2.52% compared to December 2023 and increased by 2.89% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 10 months of 2024, the CPI increased by 3.78% compared to the same period last year; core inflation increased by 2.69%.

Also according to the General Statistics Office, in the 0.33% increase in CPI in October 2024 compared to the previous month, there were 10 groups of goods and services with increased price indexes and 1 group of goods with decreased price indexes, which was the post and telecommunications group with a decrease of 0.05%.

10 groups of goods and services increased in price, including: Transportation group increased the most with 0.66%, mainly due to: Diesel oil price increased by 2.27%; domestic gasoline price increased by 0.98% due to the impact of price adjustments during the month. Air passenger transport price increased by 32.75% due to increased consumer demand...

The food and catering services group increased by 0.55%, of which food increased by 0.77%; foodstuff increased by 0.66%, eating out increased by 0.19%.

The education group increased by 0.48%, of which the price of educational services increased by 0.53% due to the increase in tuition fees of some private kindergartens, colleges, vocational schools, intermediate schools, universities and postgraduate schools. In addition, the price of writing pens increased by 0.13%; the price of stationery and other school supplies increased by 0.09%; the price of paper products and textbooks also increased by 0.07%.

The group of other goods and services increased by 0.26%. Of which, jewelry prices increased by 4.67% following domestic gold prices; elderly care services increased by 0.69%.

The group of household appliances and equipment increased by 0.2% due to increased consumer demand and many promotional programs in some localities having ended. Of which, the price of electric irons increased by 1.27%; vacuum cleaners increased by 0.68%; bathroom water heaters increased by 0.67%...

The beverage and tobacco group increased by 0.11% due to increased labor costs and exchange rates. The housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 0.11%, mainly due to the following reasons: Gas prices increased by 1.17%; kerosene prices increased by 1% due to the impact of price adjustments during the month; house rental prices increased by 0.73%...

The garment, hat and footwear group increased by 0.09% due to increased shopping demand when the weather changes. The culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.09%, because during the month there is Vietnamese Women's Day, so the demand for flowers increased, the price of ornamental plants and flowers increased by 1.27%.

The group of medicines and medical services increased by 0.02% due to the change of weather between the two seasons, increasing flu and respiratory diseases, so the demand for pain relievers, fever reducers, respiratory drugs, vitamins and minerals increased.

Core inflation in October 2024 increased by 0.23% compared to the previous month and by 2.68% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 10 months of 2024, core inflation increased by 2.69% compared to the same period in 2023, lower than the average CPI increase (3.78%), mainly due to the prices of food, foodstuffs, electricity, education services, medical services and gasoline, which are factors affecting the CPI increase but are excluded from the list of goods for calculating core inflation.
