Nestle Vietnam pays tribute to coffee growers in the Central Highlands

Nestle Vietnam recently organized the program "Vietnamese Coffee Bean Story" at Nestle Tri An factory.

With the aim of helping coffee farmers understand more about deep processing activities and increasing the value of Vietnamese coffee beans, Nestle Vietnam organized a study tour for 50 of the best farmers in the NESCAFE Plan program.

Farmers have the opportunity to learn about coffee processing technologies, taste a variety of coffee products, and interact with staff operating a modern coffee processing plant.

Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc, NESCAFE Plan Program Manager, Nestle Vietnam Company shared: “This is the first time we have organized a tour program for farmers who have accompanied and been attached to the NESCAFE Plan program for over 13 years.

This is also an opportunity for us to thank them and help them see that their dedication and contributions have significantly contributed to the success of the NESCAFE Plan in particular and the sustainable development of the Vietnamese coffee industry in general."

This tour helps farmers better understand the journey of Vietnamese coffee beans from raw materials, processing, to producing high-quality products and exporting to 30 markets worldwide, including many markets with strict product quality requirements such as Europe, Japan, Korea, America...

The event also aims to affirm Nestle's commitment to supporting farmers in shifting to sustainable farming models, improving livelihoods, and increasing the value of Vietnamese coffee beans in domestic and foreign markets.

“We hope that after the visit, farmers will be more proud of their journey over the past time and will continue to spread positive messages about green agriculture, contributing to further strengthening Vietnam's position as a country that grows and exports high-quality coffee in the world," said Mr. Ngoc.

Participating in the program since 2015 and being selected to join the visiting delegation, Ms. Mai Thi Nhung said: “This is the first time I have visited a modern Nestle coffee processing factory. I am very proud to see that the coffee beans we cultivate on the farm have been processed by Nestle into high-quality products, exported around the world.”

NESCAFE Plan has been implemented by Nestle Vietnam in the Central Highlands provinces since 2011 in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to support coffee farmers in practicing regenerative agriculture.

To date, the Program has conducted more than 355,000 training sessions on sustainable coffee cultivation for farming households, provided seedlings to an average of over 21,000 farming households each year during the 2011-2023 period, and distributed more than 74 million high-yield, pest- and drought-resistant seedlings to help replant more than 74,000 hectares of aging coffee.

By applying regenerative agriculture coffee cultivation methods, the program has helped farmers save up to 40% of irrigation water, reduce 20% of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and increase income by 30-100%.

The program also established 274 farmer groups, of which more than 30% had female farmers as group leaders, helping them receive professional training and then continue to impart knowledge, inspiring the farming community to practice sustainable agricultural production.
