The tax sector is changing strongly in the digital age, accelerating reform, modernization and building a transparent and efficient financial system.

On April 30, 1975 - a dazzling milestone in the history of the nation - not only marking the great victory of the country's liberation career, but also an opportunity to look back at the companion of many industries and fields in the construction and development of the nation. From the rear of the Finance in the resistance to the pioneering role in digital transformation, today's tax industry is continuing the tradition, promoting reform to serve people and businesses more and more effectively.

In the journey of nearly 80 years of development, Vietnam's tax industry has always been a close part with every step of the country's transformation. From the early days of difficulties in the resistance to the present time - when Vietnam entered the era of digital conversion, the tax industry was still persistent and pioneering for the goal of serving people and businesses, contributing to creating a modern, transparent and sustainable national finance.

Inheriting the glorious tradition of tax officials who have contributed to the "economic and financial line" in wartime, the tax industry today continues to play a key role on the peaceful financial and economic front. After the reunification of the country, overcome the difficulties of the subsidy period and transformed strongly in the period of renovation, integration, the tax staff constantly tried to reform to build a synchronous and modern tax system, taking taxpayers as a center.

Entering the digital era, the tax industry is gradually affirming the pioneering role in the conversion process. In recent years, the industry has made a clear impression with many outstanding achievements in administrative procedure reform and information technology application. In particular, in 2024, for the first time the budget revenue was managed by the tax authority exceeding 1.7 million billion dong, in the context of the economic facing many difficulties. This is not only the result of the whole industry effort but also a testament to an effective and modern tax administration.

The rate of high-tech application in tax management is also a notable highlight: 100% of businesses have used electronic invoices, 99.5% declare and pay taxes online, over 96% of tax refund records are processed online. These figures not only reflect technological level but also demonstrate a strong shift in management thinking - from administration to service, from manual to digitalization.

One of the bright spots in the technology is the eTax Mobile application - a convenient and easy-to-reach taxpayer support tool, with more than 3.8 million downloads and uses. In May, the Tax sector will deploy biometric integration and connect the system with the VNeID application, creating conditions for people to fulfill their tax obligations with just a few steps on their smartphones.

Along with that, the tax sector is promoting the application of artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data in the stages of invoice management, tax refunds, inspection, examination, debt management... to build a transparent and professional tax administration system, in line with the digital economy and the requirements of international integration.

2025 is identified as a pivotal year in implementing the Tax System Reform Strategy to 2030. The industry is focusing on perfecting the legal system, reviewing and amending tax laws and the Law on Tax Administration to suit new realities. Tax collection management in the field of e-commerce, anti-fraud invoice fraud, and tax refund control have also been strongly strengthened.

In addition, the restructuring of the apparatus in the direction of streamlining and efficiency is being implemented synchronously. This is a challenging process, but the Tax sector has turned challenges into opportunities to improve service quality, modernize management, and constantly improve the effectiveness of public service performance.

From the rear in the resistance war to the first route of transformation, Vietnam's tax industry always maintains the mission to serve the people and accompany the country. In the flow of the new era, the tax industry continues to write the eloquent song with faith, intelligence, atmosphere and the desire to reach far away - as a pioneer forces contributing to building a developed, modern and deep integration.
