After the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, Quang Ngai fishermen have returned to fishing grounds to exploit aquatic products.
With favorable weather and finding the right fishing route, many anchovies fishing vessels here have caught the right season, earning a large profit, some of which have earned hundreds of millions of VND after just one night at sea.
From 10 to 12 noon every day, Tinh Ky fishing port, Quang Ngai city, is always bustling with boats returning from fishing trips. Fisherman Tran Tot, owner of the QNg 11692 Ts boat in Tinh Ky commune, happily shared: My boat has 10 crew members, and has gone out to sea to exploit anchovies in the waters of Quang Ngai, 22 nautical miles from shore. After one night, we caught 17 tons of anchovies. With a price of 11,000 VND/kg at the port (salted fish and fish), my ship's first sea trip of the year brought 170 million VND. After deducting expenses, each crew member receives about 6-7 million VND".
Fisherman Vo Trung, a fisherman in Tinh Ky commune, said: "Coal rice appears mainly from January to April of the lunar calendar every year in the waters of Quang Ngai. This type of fish often moves in a flock, so if any boat detects the fish flow accurately, it will be a bumper trip."
According to the fishermen, the crew will go to sea at around 1pm and stay up all night to catch fish, and return to the mainland the next morning. Although the work is very hard, when the fish are caught, each crew member can receive from 5-7 million VND, everyone is happy.
Tinh Ky commune currently has a fleet of up to 40 anchovies with more than 200 workers participating. After the Tet holiday, most of the ships have returned to fishing. From February 4 to 15, each vessel will averagely exploit 7 to 10 tons of anchovies. In particular, there are ships that have reached 17-20 tons of anchovies overnight.
The anchovies caught in the waters of Quang Ngai are large in size, with prices at the port ranging from 15,000 to 17,000 VND/kg. Traders buy fish, transport them to the steams in Tinh Ky commune to process into dried anchovies, while small anchovies are made into fish sauce and sold in the southern provinces.
To enhance the value of anchovies caught from Hoang Sa fish farms, many anchovies processing facilities in Tinh Ky commune have taken the initiative in processing and preserving the fish, helping them stay fresh longer and export them to markets such as China and Malaysia with many times higher value.
Not only fishermen, but also workers who work as fish loading and stone loading at Tinh Ky fishing port also have a stable income of 300-400 thousand VND/day. Fishing logistics services at the port such as stone quarrying, petroleum supply and transportation are also increasingly developing.
