Tet gift baskets on shelves early
According to stores and supermarkets in Can Tho City, Tet gift baskets have been put on shelves to serve the needs of consumers. The items in the gift baskets have not changed much, the most popular are still wine, tea, cake boxes, candies, jams, nuts, spices...
Speaking to Lao Dong, Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong - Deputy Director of Co.opmart Can Tho Supermarket - informed that since December 1, the supermarket has displayed Tet gift baskets and currently the shelves are full. According to Ms. Phuong, the designs of Tet gift baskets this year are similar to last year but there is a change in price.
“We always grasp and follow the needs of customers. This year, we have a full range of Tet gift baskets from affordable to high-end. Customers can shop for products that suit their family’s budget,” said Ms. Phuong.
At Mr. Pham Thanh Phong's store (O Mon District, Can Tho City), Tet gift baskets are also on sale, but not many, mainly for customers to refer to. Depending on the price of the gift basket, the selected products have different brands.
“The economy has just recovered, consumers are still not bold enough to spend, so this year's Tet gift baskets will focus on the segment from 300,000 to 500,000 VND/basket. Higher-end gift baskets from 600,000 to 1 million VND are in small numbers, mainly ordered in advance and then packaged by the store,” said Mr. Phong.
Purchasing power is not "hot" yet
According to Ms. Dang Ngoc Uyen Phuong, the current purchasing power of Tet gift baskets at supermarkets is not high, mainly large orders from companies buying for workers and partners. Retail customers only refer to the price and design.
At Mr. Phong’s store, the demand for Tet gift baskets from customers at this time is still quite low. Based on experience from previous years, Mr. Phong predicts that most of the gift baskets consumed will be concentrated in the days leading up to Tet and during Tet, when people are off and have time to visit relatives.
Going shopping for Tet these days to avoid the crowds, Mr. Nguyen Ho Thien Phu (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) shared that his family mainly chooses some food, spices and clothes. Regarding Tet gift baskets, Mr. Phu said that it is still quite early to choose. Mr. Phu plans to buy them during Tet holiday to visit and give to relatives and friends.
Although she has started choosing some items for the Tet holiday, Ms. Pham Huynh Nhu (O Mon district, Can Tho city) has no intention of buying a gift basket. Partly because she has no need yet, partly because she is waiting for her salary and Tet bonus to calculate her spending before deciding to buy.
Ms. Nhu expressed: “Currently, Tet gift baskets have begun to be displayed with many price segments from low to high. With my family's current income, I plan to buy mid-range gift baskets to give as gifts this year.”
