On July 30, the Gia Lai Department of Finance said that it had requested the leaders of An Khe Sugar Factory (under Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company) to complete legal documents to adjust the investment project of An Khe Biomass Power Plant to a larger scale.
Previously, An Khe Sugar Factory - a unit purchasing sugarcane raw materials from many communes in eastern Gia Lai province - had asked for permission to expand the factory capacity. Accordingly, the An Khe Biomass Power Plant project is proposed to increase the capacity to 135MW, along with investing in the An Ethanol Factory to handle the large amount of leakage arising during the road processing process.
The investor believes that the dossier procedures still have many problems, affecting the project implementation progress and requested competent authorities to support timely resolution.

The Gia Lai Department of Finance said that the project has not been updated in the list of power source projects in the province in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. To facilitate businesses, the Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with the Department of Finance to update, supplement and submit to the competent authority to adjust the Provincial Planning.
The leaders of An Khe Power Plant also need to commit to fully complying with technical regulations on industrial emissions when increasing the design capacity of An Khe Biomass Power Plant. In particular, it is necessary to have a plan to treat emissions from 3 boilers in accordance with regulations, to avoid emissions that pollute the environment.
In recent meetings with voters, people have reflected that An Khe Sugar Factory needs to implement solutions to ensure environmental safety and hygiene. The factory needs to completely eliminate the odor, emissions and ashes scattered outside to avoid affecting the daily lives of local people.
The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee also requires the company to conduct automatic and regular monitoring of emissions and wastewater, ensuring compliance with national environmental standards.
