Recently, in Ho Chi Minh City, there have been cases of people pretending to be tax officials calling and sending messages to taxpayers with the aim of defrauding them. These people have lured taxpayers into installing fake software, providing personal information, or transferring money to receive tax-related support.
Common forms of fraud include impersonating tax officials and offering support in installing industry applications on computers, mobile phones and other networked devices; inviting taxpayers to work, and instructing them on declaring tax exemptions and reductions over the phone.
The impersonators also invited people to attend training sessions, sell documents and books, and hold citizen identification cards to contact tax authorities to update and declare information on regulations on value-added tax reduction policies according to Resolution No. 174/2024/QH15 and personal income tax refund policies to receive tax refunds.
In particular, some subjects also requested to download the software installation link, notify the use of electronic documents for personal income tax deduction according to Decree No. 123/2020/ND-CP to appropriate taxpayers' network accounts and bank accounts. Request taxpayers to provide certain information such as the account to access the tax payment application via eTax Mobile, tax code, citizen identification card, business registration certificate, invitation to update and declare information on regulations on value added tax reduction policy and personal income tax refund policy. Request taxpayers to declare information on the electronic tax website before going to the tax authority to receive electronic records.
In response to the above phenomenon, on February 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department affirmed that it has no policy to carry out such activities. This is an act of impersonation for illegal profit, seriously affecting the reputation of the tax agency and causing trouble for taxpayers. The Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department has continuously posted warnings about this issue on its official website and media channels.
The Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department recommends that taxpayers be vigilant and not provide personal information to suspicious individuals. When receiving suspicious messages or calls, people should carefully check the source of the information and contact the tax authority directly or call the Tax Department's hotline for verification. If fraud is detected, people should immediately report it to the authorities for timely handling.
