Reuters reported that on March 17, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed that there will be a "significant number" of countries ready to deploy troops to Ukraine to carry out peacekeeping missions in the event of reaching a peace agreement with Russia.
A Starmer spokesperson said more than 30 countries are expected to join the plan or in what European leaders called a voluntary alliance when it was agreed at the London summit earlier this month.
The spokesperson said the ability to contribute will be different, but this will be a force that is considered large enough with the participation of many countries in providing soldiers.
When asked if peacekeeping forces are allowed to respond if they are attacked, the spokesman said military planning meetings are underway for detailed discussions.
Speaking at the London summit on 2 March, Mr. Starmer emphasized that although not all countries can directly contribute, that does not mean that the alliance will be passive or unable to act.
In fact, according to the plan, more than 30 out of 44 European countries are ready to participate, showing that the majority of the region is proactively promoting peacekeeping initiatives and urgently deploying action.
On 15 March, Prime Minister Starmer held an online meeting with leaders of Europe and other countries to strengthen support for the alliance, before military planners gathered in the UK on 20 March to discuss how to secure a ceasefire.
According to Reuters, the UK and France are leading efforts to come up with a peacekeeping plan for Ukraine after US President Donald Trump began negotiations to promote a peace deal with Russia.
On the Russian government's side, on March 16, Russian Deputy Chairman of the Security Council - Mr. Dmitry Medvedev - continued to warn that the deployment of "peacekeeping forces" in Ukraine by NATO member states would lead to a full-scale war. Mr. Medvedev emphasized that this war will take place between NATO and Russia.
In an article on social network X, Medvedev, who was once the President of Russia, stated that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron were pretending not to know the serious consequences of the plan.
Mr. Medvedev stated that the UK, France and countries in the US-led military alliance have been repeatedly reminded by Russia that peacekeeping forces must not come from NATO countries. However, in reality, member states will mobilize tens of thousands of soldiers to Ukraine.
