On February 24, records at some supermarkets and retail centers in Ho Chi Minh City after the Tet holiday showed that shopping activities quickly returned to their normal pace. The number of visitors and shoppers gradually increased, mainly focusing on fresh food and essential consumer goods.
Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of MM Mega Market said that from the 4th day of Tet, the system has returned to normal operation, and people's shopping rhythm has also gradually stabilized. Goods supply is guaranteed to be sufficient, and the supermarket continues to implement promotional programs, mainly focusing on essential goods and food.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, the goods market in the city during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026 in general is stable, supply is abundant, and no shortages or sudden price increases are recorded. Trading activities are maintained smoothly in both traditional and modern channels, meeting well the consumption needs of people before, during and after Tet.
At the three wholesale markets, some traders opened to take the opening day, focusing on importing meat, vegetables, fruits and items serving rituals. However, the number of customers in the first days of the year is not high, purchasing power is still weak because most people have actively shopped and stockpiled food from before Tet. Consumption demand gradually increases in the days after the holidays.
In the people's market system, most halls, stalls, and kiosks have reopened, mainly trading in essential goods such as livestock meat, poultry, vegetables, fruits and food. Notably, the prices of essential food and foodstuffs are basically equivalent to the time before Tet. After Tet, rice prices and some food items decreased slightly due to cooling consumer demand.
At modern distribution channels, supermarket systems, shopping centers and convenience stores maintain stable operations. Most points of sale only take a break on the 1st day of Tet, quickly reopening to serve shopping needs. Stores, eateries and gas stations in the area also operate throughout Tet, contributing to ensuring the rhythm of people's lives.
According to general assessment, the total value of goods prepared by businesses for 2 months of Tet reached about 26,000 billion VND, of which more than 9,000 billion VND is market stabilization goods, continuing to promote the role of price regulation. The volume of goods through three wholesale markets increased compared to normal days, but the market did not experience shortages. Purchasing power in the modern retail system increased by 20-30%, total retail sales in the peak Tet month are estimated to increase by about 15% compared to the same period. The trend of consumption continues to shift to supermarkets and e-commerce, contributing to reducing pressure on traditional channels.
In parallel with the supply work, the market management force deploys peak inspection and control before, during and after Tet. Many violations related to smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin and violations in the e-commerce environment have been detected and handled promptly, contributing to protecting consumer rights and maintaining market stability.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, the supply of essential goods will continue to be ensured, prices will remain stable, and there will be no shortage or price fever.
