Potential stock groups when securities are upgraded

Cash flow on the stock market will prioritize large-cap stocks with high liquidity and still capable of receiving foreign capital.

From September 21, 2026, the Vietnamese stock market is officially upgraded to a secondary emerging market according to FTSE Russell standards, marking an important shift in the process of deeper integration with international capital flows, many stocks are assessed to have potential to attract investors.

In this context, the immediate focus is still the large-cap stock group. The list of 27 Vietnamese stocks included in FTSE Global All Cap includes the Large Cap group with VCB, VIC, VHM; Mid Cap has BID, HPG, VPB and 21 Small Cap stocks in many fields including banking, real estate, consumer goods, industry and securities.

Yuanta Vietnam Securities Company (CTCK) believes that the essence here is that the group of mid-cap and large-cap stocks will be the group of stocks that benefit the most, especially the group of large-cap stocks. Specifically, the group of banking, securities and real estate stocks will be the groups of stocks accounting for the largest proportion in the FTSE index basket. Therefore, in the short term, when passive investment funds disburse, these groups of stocks will be prioritized for buying, accounting for a high proportion.

However, this securities company also noted that the level of impact is also short-term because the disbursed value is not large, so investors are not completely too excited to chase after buying. Because market fluctuations will still depend on the diễn biến of interest rates and choosing strong stocks that surpass both the basic foundation and cash flow will still be prioritized stocks in the portfolio.

Agriseco Securities Company assessed that 5 stocks including HDB, SSI, VIC, VPB and VRE will be the focus based on criteria on market capitalization, liquidity, business prospects, and the ability to benefit from capital flows according to FTSE GEIS index sets and technical developments.

In the banking group, HDB is assessed to have completed the price base verification process, while VPB is verifying the 27,000-28,000 VND/share range, thereby forming a foundation for an upward trend if important resistance levels are overcome.

SSI is a noteworthy representative in the securities group when it has surpassed the short-term downtrend and is gradually forming an upward trend after the price base testing process.

In the real estate group, VIC has overcome the resistance zone and completed the verification process, while VRE is operating in the lower channel of the recovery trend. According to Agriseco, VRE's developments may be supported by capital flows from foreign investors.

In general, the stocks that Agriseco included in the monitoring group have relatively high liquidity, with an average trading volume of 3 months from about 4.6 million to more than 19 million shares per session. These are also large-scale stocks, suitable for the criteria of liquidity and accessibility of institutional capital flows when the market enters the post-upgrade phase.

Experts from Kafi Securities Company advise that the appropriate strategy for investors is to disburse gradually instead of concentrating capital around the milestone of 21.9. Specifically, prioritize large-cap groups in the basket of 27 codes in the early stages, closely monitor ETF restructuring sessions to avoid chasing after technical fluctuations, and shift focus to selection according to basic foundations when entering 2027.

From a short-term perspective, Dr. Nguyen Duy Phuong, Senior Director of DG Capital Financial Analysis Division, believes that after periods of strong market decline and recovery, stocks with large capitalization, high liquidity, sustainable business... will attract large cash flows from funds and institutional investors. Notably, banking, steel, and retail groups can be mentioned.

Investors still need to fully assess the 4 factors of each business: competitive advantage, effective management, healthy finance and reasonable valuation before deciding to buy any stock. Sometimes, a good business is not necessarily a good investment," Dr. Phuong stated his opinion.
